With that, I shoved him aside with all the strength I had left, climbed over the windowsill, and threw myself off.
As I fell, the wind roared past my ears.
It was the fourth floor–high enough to shatter every bone in my body. But no matter what, I had to get out.

“No! Elsie!” Colsen’s eyes widened in alarm. He watched me fall from the windowsill, horrified. He reached out in a panic, trying to grab me, but only managed to grasp empty air.
Terror overtook his expression,

pped his entire body.
“Hurry! Get down there and save her!”
But by the time the crowd rushed downstairs, all they found was a large bloodstain; there was no sign of me at all.
Colsen looked everywhere, calling out my name, but I had vanished.
Shortly after, several police officers barged into the house without warning.
One of them asked firmly, “Who here is Colsen Breslin? We’ve received a report accusing you of causing the death of your child. We need you to come with us for questioning.”
Colsen stood frozen, clearly confused by the sudden accusation.

Once he understood what was being said, his face darkened with rage. “What the hell are you talking about? My two sons are just fine; they’re playing in their room. Who said they were dead?”
The officer gave him a serious look and replied, “Mr. Breslin, it’s your daughter who passed away, not your son.”
His face went pale. “You mean… Kiara?”
“Yes, the victim was Kiara Breslin. She was seven,” the officer confirmed.
It felt like the world collapsed around him. “No… that can’t be true… that’s impossible!”
The officers immediately pulled out photos taken of Kiara’s body at the funeral home and placed them in front of Colsen.
One of them said, “Mr. Breslin, based on what we’ve found, Kiara passed away four days ago. The cause of death was multiple organ failure due to hypothermia.
“What… what are you saying?” Colsen looked like he’d been struck by lightning.
His knees gave out, and he collapsed to the floor as if all his strength had been drained.
Without a fight, he allowed the officers to cuff him and lead him away.

What Colsen never realized was that I was the one who reported him.
Though I jumped from the fourth floor, I somehow survived. In terrible pain, I dragged myself into the sewer and managed to get away.
Out on the street, I borrowed a stranger’s phone and called the police.

When I opened my eyes again, I was already lying in a hospital bed. Some kind–hearted people had brought me there.
Luckily, aside from a fractured wrist and some bruises, I didn’t suffer any serious injuries.
After being released from the hospital, I went alone to the funeral home and arranged everything for Kiara’s funeral.
I couldn’t save any of her belongings, so I cut off a small piece of my own hair and placed it in her grave.
I stood at Kiara’s grave, tears streaming down my face, the pain tearing
through me.
“Kiara, I’m really sorry… I couldn’t protect you. Rest in peace, my sweet girl. I hope you’re surrounded by love and light now.”
The day after Kiara’s funeral, I returned to the house.
I’m ready to reclaim everything that’s mine.
