Chapter 4
The next morning, before I even opened my eyes, Nicola’s insistent call pierced through the silence.
“Elisa, where are you?”
His cold, clipped tone immediately doused whatever good mood I had left.
“What is it?” I asked, my voice flat.
“My parents are back. They want you to come home for dinner.”
Home.
A place that had never felt less like one.
By the time I arrived, it was already dusk. The dining table was occupied by four people: Eden and Sara—Nicola’s parents—Alpha Nicola himself, and Sasha.
Nicola’s sharp gaze swept over me, but instead of acknowledging my presence, he stood abruptly.
“I’m done. Lost my appetite.”
“Nicola—wait!” Sasha scrambled after him, her voice laced with desperation.
I ignored the scene and took a seat between Eden and Sara, their discomfort evident as they fumbled for words.
“You know Nicola has been… under a lot of pressure lately…” Sara’s voice trailed off, her concern genuine but misplaced.
I looked at them—these two people who had once tried to save me in another lifetime. They had stood against their own son for my sake, but back then, Nicola’s grip on power had already been unshakable.
This time, I wouldn’t let them fight battles they couldn’t win.
“I’ve given it a lot of thought,” I said softly, but my resolve was firm.
“Nicola and I… we’re not right for each other. He doesn’t love me, and I don’t love him.”
Sara’s face paled, her eyes filling with tears.
“Elisa, no… it doesn’t have to end like this. We can—”
“No.” I cut her off gently but firmly.
“The Mate bond ends here. It’s better for both of us to have our freedom than to stay chained in misery.”
Silence fell over the room, heavy and suffocating.
Sara’s lip quivered as Eden placed a hand on her shoulder, his expression unreadable.
For the first time in what felt like forever, my chest felt lighter. This decision—the one that had haunted me since I was reborn—was finally made.
But fate wasn’t ready to let me leave quietly.
Upstairs, I returned to my old room to gather a few things I’d left behind.
Before I could step inside, Sasha appeared, blocking my way.
“Elisa,” she began, her voice trembling but her eyes calculating. “Please… can’t you just let Nicola go?”
I stared at her, unmoved.
“I’m carrying his child,” she continued, clutching her stomach as if to shield it. “A child needs their father, Elisa. You’ve already had your time with him. Isn’t that enough?”
The lie in her eyes was so blatant, it was almost insulting. I stepped back instinctively, keeping my distance.
That’s when her expression changed—a twisted, knowing smile flashed across her face. Before I could react, she grabbed my wrist and yanked herself backward.
“Elisa, no! Don’t push me!”
Her scream echoed through the halls as she tumbled down the stairs. Blood spread across the floor like a macabre painting, pooling between her legs.
“My baby! My baby!” Sasha’s cries tore through the house.
Footsteps thundered from the study. Nicola appeared, his face twisting in horror at the sight before him. His eyes darted to Sasha, then to me. Fury replaced the shock, and in an instant, his hand connected with my cheek.
“You’re vile, Elisa!” he roared.
“All those years, people said you were cruel, and I didn’t believe them. I defended you! But now I see it with my own eyes. What do you have to say for yourself?”
“Nicola, I didn’t—”
“Save it!” he spat, cutting me off.
“If it weren’t for you, Sasha and I would still be together. You’ve done nothing but ruin us! Why can’t you just stay out of our lives?”
Eden and Sara rushed to the scene, drawn by the commotion.
Sasha, ever the performer, clutched her stomach and wailed louder, tears streaming down her face.
Nicola turned to his parents, his voice venomous.
“Look at her! This is the Luna you chose for me!”
“I never chose her,” he growled, his voice low and guttural. “You think I wanted this bond? You think I asked for you?”
“Good,” I whispered, my voice shaking with restrained fury. “Because from this moment on, you don’t have me anymore.”
“I reject you, Nicola,” I said, my voice steady despite the storm raging inside me. “Not just as my mate, but as the Alpha who was supposed to protect me. You’ve failed me in every way that matters. From today onward, I am nothing to you, and you… are nothing to me.”
I turned on my heel, every step away from him a severance of the bond that had once tied us.
To my surprise, alpha Nicola was like crazy , he stamped his feet and growled, ”No,!”
