Seeing me awake, a nurse hurried
to
get the doctor.
The doctor examined me thoroughly and confirmed I was stable. Just as I was trying to rest that afternoon, reporters knocked on my hospital room door.
“We’ve heard that your parents and husband forcibly performed a C–section on you at eight months pregnant.“[]
They held out a tablet showing my story had broken online, drawing massive public attention.[]
“These parents are monsters! They’re both doctors, and her husband’s a CEO. How could these respectable professionals act like such savages?“]
“My cousin works at that hospital. They said everyone who saw the scene broke down crying. Blood everywhere, the mother nearly died on the table.“[]
“These beast parents and garbage husband need to pay for what they’ve done!“]
I looked at the comments without expression and handed the tablet back.[]

“I have nothing to add. Everything in the reports is true. As you can see, I barely survived. I will pursue this case to the end.“[]
Without hesitation, I lifted my gown to show my crooked, grotesque surgical scar.]
The journalists gasped in horror.]]
“How could they do this to their own daughter?“[]”
As everyone was expressing their outrage, my phone rang.
It was Marcus.
He must have been bailed out and was calling to confront me.]
I put the call on speaker.]]
“Did you post all that stuff online? Are you trying to destroy us all? Sarah, how can you be so vicious?“]
Marcus’s voice filled the room. Everyone fell silent, and one reporter quietly started livestreaming.]
“I just got out of critical condition. How could I have posted anything? I haven’t had the chance.“[]
Marcus scoffed.
“We only wanted to use the cord blood to save Emma. Why are you being so vindictive about it? Isn’t Emma your sister?”
“Wasn’t that your son in my womb?“]
I countered. Marcus responded dismissively.[]
“That’s exactly why he should save Emma. It was his destiny. Emma is the person I love most in this world. A vindictive woman like you doesn’t deserve to be the mother of my child.“[]
His words stunned everyone in the room. The livestream viewers exploded with comments.[]
“I can’t believe it – a brother–in–law in love with his wife’s sister! And the parents were in on it! This is beyond twisted.“[]
“Never seen such a disgusting family. I’m about to throw up.”
“They deliberately married her and got her pregnant just to harvest cord blood for the sister? What kind of sick plot is this?“[]
Suddenly, Marcus seemed to realize he was being livestreamed. His voice turned threatening.[]
“Sarah, you set this up with the media? Is this your trap to expose us all? Is that your plan?“[]
I let out a cold laugh.
“Your own actions speak for themselves. I don’t need to add anything. Marcus, in your quiet moments, don’t you see our bloodied baby in your hands?“[]
“If my reputation is ruined, I’ll make you pay for it. Don’t forget we’re still legally married – your fate is tied to mine.“]
Marcus tried to threaten me.

“Marcus, did you forget about the divorce agreement you signed before our wedding to prove your sincerity?“[]
Marcus froze.
“You signed the divorce papers? Impossible! You’ve been in the hospital – how could you have signed anything?“[]
I could hear him frantically searching through drawers in the background.[]
“Where did you put those papers? How dare you scheme against me!“[]
Marcus was screaming into the phone, but it was too late. The moment I signed those papers, I’d given the safe combination to my friend and asked her to file them with the court.

“Sarah, you won’t get away with this. This isn’t over,” Marcus snarled. “Turn off that livestream right now!“]
Even now, he was still trying to protect his reputation.[]
The viewer count kept climbing.]
“Is it just me, or is Sarah kind of badass? She’s so clear–headed and won’t let anyone manipulate her.“]
“Love how she handles herself. She’s got that main character energy – won’t let any man gaslight her.“[]
“After being cut open without anesthesia, anyone would wake up this clearheaded. These people are basically serial killers.“[]
Just then, my phone buzzed with a notification from the court.[]
One glance confirmed that my divorce from Marcus was final.[]
Marcus was still raging on the other end.
“Sarah, don’t get too cocky. Emma already has the cord blood. Once she recovers, what then? Even if we’re divorced, it doesn’t matter. Emma and I are meant to be together. The moment she’s well, we’re getting married. Don’t come crying back then!“]
I let out a cold laugh. “I wish you both endless happiness.”
Just as Marcus was about to hang up, the door burst open. My father stormed in, looking haggard and wild. He grabbed my collar violently.
“What did
you
do to the cord blood? Why did the transplant fail? Emma’s dead – do you understand? She’s dead and it’s your fault!“[]
“Who’s dead?” Marcus’s voice trembled through the speaker.[]
