Chapter 7
Mom’s business abroad was doing well, and she had wide connections. She found the best orthopedist to do my surgery.
The chance that I could stand up got higher.
I was excited, but the news Mom brought over shocked me.
“The woman named Adela Clifford died in the police station. I heard that she developed a complication after surgery and didn’t get treatment in time.”
I couldn’t believe my ears.
Why did Adela go to jail? Her death must’ve devastated Antonio and
Alaric.
After all, Adela was Antonio’s first love and Alaric’s beloved “mom“.
Mom stabbed my forehead with her finger to show her dissatisfaction. “Dumbfounded?
“But her death won’t make everything OK. I’ll take your revenge.”
”
I held Mom’s hand and said in a childlike voice, “You’re a great mom. I love you.”
How could I have broken Mom’s heart for that bastard Antonio?
Luckily, it was not too late to change.
I didn’t expect to see Alaric and Antonio in a foreign country.

When I practiced walking in the rehabilitation center and almost fell, they rushed over to support me.
“Grace!”
“Mom!”
Seeing them, I stiffened.
Then, I hit them with my crutch. “Go away. Don’t touch me. It’s disgusting!”
Tears welled up in Alaric’s eyes. “Mom, you never spoke to me this way.”
I looked at him with a disgusted look. “I’m not your mom. You want Adela to be your mom, don’t you? Go call her Mom.”
Alaric clutched my thigh, wailing. “Mom, I was wrong. I won’t call anyone else Mom!”
Antonio held out his hands carefully and then withdrew them, sadness showing in his eyes.
“Grace, why are you so thin?”
I sneered and pushed Alaric away. “You should have the answer.
“I suffered a lot and lost a kidney. I’m lucky to stay alive.”
Antonio’s face paled. “I know I made an unforgivable mistake.
“I’m too ashamed to ask for your forgiveness. But please give me a chance
to take care of you and watch you get well again.”
I touched my waist. “What about this? It’ll never be back again.

“Don’t call me Mom. I’m not your mom!” I pushed them away with fury.
Antonio asked in a sorrowful voice, “Grace if I give you my kidney, will you forgive me?”
Alaric ran after me and said with tears, “Mom, I can give you my kidney
too. Please don’t leave me.”
I looked at them with hatred.
“I told you not to call me Mom.
“And I don’t want your kidneys. They’re too dirty for me!”
They both looked frustrated.
