Chapter 7
Esther wasn’t one to back down either. She looked down at Mary with a cold sneer. “In your dreams! I’d rather get an abortion than give the baby to you.”
Mary immediately panicked upon hearing this. Without thinking, she wrapped her arms around Esther and desperately tried to drag her toward the house.
Esther simply threw herself on the ground and made a scene, screaming at the top of her lungs: “Help! Someone’s trying to kidnap a woman in broad daylight! Is there no justice left? I’m going to die!”
Everyone was stunned. After a moment of shock, they rushed forward to intervene. “Mary, what are you doing? Let her go!”
Mary shot back without hesitation: “She’s carrying my
grandson! This is our family business why are you outsiders getting involved?”
Someone gasped. “Your grandson? You mean Daniel’s child?”
Instantly, everyone’s eyes darted back and forth between Esther and me.
I stared at Esther in shock and asked, “You’re pregnant with Daniel’s child? What exactly is your relationship?”

Esther’s face darkened. She had planned to just leave, never expecting that even the pregnancy would be exposed.
“No! Daniel and I have nothing to do with each other! Stop making things up. Let me go!” She frantically pushed against Mary, desperately denying any relationship with Daniel.
But Mary shouted back fiercely: “You’re carrying Daniel’s child, which makes you part of our family. You have to give birth to this baby! Otherwise, you’re a murderer.
My son bought you a house and a car. Everything you eat, wear, and use–where do you think the money came from? Even that gold chain you’re wearing, my son bought that too.”
She reached for the gold necklace Esther had hidden under her collar and yanked it out, the gold gleaming in the light.
Someone whispered in amazement: “Didn’t they say Daniel’s business failed? How does he still have so much money?”
Mary snorted coldly. “How could my son fail? He borrowed $130,000, and nearly $80,000 of it was spent on Esther.
My poor son was so devoted to her, and now that he’s dead, she won’t even let him keep his child.”
Esther’s face flushed red as she clutched the necklace
defensively: “He gave me all of this willingly. I didn’t even have any official status, just following him around–wasn’t I entitled

to some benefits?”
Mary immediately jumped up and cursed: “So you admit it! You took his money and then turned your back on him–you have no shame.
You’re staying here today whether you like it or not. We can’t lose our family’s child.”
Esther slapped her across the face. “Your family is so poor–who would want to stay?”
The two women started fighting again, turning the courtyard into chaos.
Since it was a family matter, the others mostly just stood around watching the drama unfold, with no one stepping in to break up the fight.
Soon, Esther collapsed on the ground, crying and screaming while clutching her stomach. “My stomach hurts so much! I’m going to miscarry!”
Mary was terrified, afraid of losing her only grandchild too. She quickly called for someone to take Esther to the hospital.
Fortunately, the doctor said her condition wasn’t serious.
For some reason, Esther stopped mentioning abortion after that.

The scene briefly quieted down, but the relationship between her and Daniel resurfaced in everyone’s minds.
Mary acted as if nothing had happened, naturally instructing me: “Go get some water. Can’t you see Esther is tired? My grandson can’t have any problems.”
Her tone was so natural, as if she hadn’t just been fighting with Esther moments before.
My eyes welled up with tears as I showed a hurt expression. “Mary, tell me the truth–was Daniel really seeing Esther behind my back?”
