Third Person’s POV
Just as the Simmonses were still happily chatting about renovation plans, there was a loud knock at the door.
Before anyone could react, the door swung open. Dale blinked in surprise, only for Marshall to flash his credentials in her face.> “I’m the legal counsel for the Harris Corporation. I’m here on behalf of Miss Harris regarding an illegal property occupation,” he formally introduced.§
Dale paused, then gave a mocking laugh. “Miss Harris? Never heard of her. This is my house, and you people need to leave.”
Without reacting, Marshall calmly pulled out a document from his briefcase and stated, “This is a copy of the property deed. The legal owner of this residence is Miss Roxanne Harris. Your actions fall under criminal trespassing and unlawful occupation. I’m asking you to vacate the premises immediately.“}
Dale’s face twisted. “Roxanne? No way! She’s just some ordinary office worker!”
Her mother peeked at the document, and her face went pale. “Roxanne… how could this be?“}
Marshall replied coolly, “Miss Roxanne is the younger sister of Chairman Silvester, CEO of the Harris Corporation. Her net worth is in the hundreds of millions. And your family had the audacity to lay hands on someone from the Hariss family?“}
Dale’s legs gave out, and she nearly collapsed. “N–No… That’s impossible… If she’s so rich, why would she marry my brother?“}
“Because she thought your brother actually loved her,” Marshall replied with a bitter chuckle. “But some people clearly aren’t worthy of that kind of love.”
Back then, Roxanne deliberately kept her family background a secret, worried that Colin might feel insecure. But hiding it only exposed just how ugly his family really was.
Right then, Dale’s phone rang.
Still dazed, she picked it up. “Hello? Who is this?”
A woman’s voice came through the other end. “Is this Miss Dale Simmons? I’m calling from the HR department of NovaCore Technologies regarding your onboarding notice.”
Dale’s eyes lit up upon hearing the company
he straightened her posture instantly and excitedly replied, “Yes, yes! That’s me!”
The HR continued, “I’m sorry, but due to concerns regarding your character, we’ve decided to withdraw your job offer.“>
Dale’s face went sheet white. “What? Why?!”
“Our investigation found several discrepancies in your résumé. On top of that, your behavior has been flagged as highly inappropriate. NovaCore Technologies has a strict policy. We don’t hire people with poor conduct,” the HR explained professionally.§
“That’s not true! My résumé is perfectly fine!” Dale retorted, voice trembling.
“We also received a report about you unlawfully attempting to seize someone else’s property. That’s a potential legal violation. Miss Simmons, we ask that you do not contact us again. You’ve been permanently blacklisted from our company.”
Right after the HR said that, the line went dead.
Daie stared at the phone as it slipped from her hands and shattered on the floor.
Marshall raised an eyebrow and smirked. “NovaCore Technologies? Isn’t that one of the Harris Corporation’s subsidiaries? With just one word from Miss Roxanne, you’ll never work in this industry again.”}
What Dale never knew was that although Roxanne married far from home, her parents had secretly set up a company for her here just to make sure she’d be safe.
