Charles stepped aside, opening the door for Florence to enter.
“I told you, if you ask, I’ll tell you the truth.”
Florence walked into the living room and turned to face Charles. “The hotel manager told me about the autopsy report. That woman didn’t die from food poisoning, so Mr. Foster, can you tell me how she was poisoned?”
Seeing the serious expression on Florence’s face, Charles didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he suddenly asked, “Do you care a lot about this hotel’s reputation?”
Florence nodded without hesitation. “Yes, I do.”
Charles‘ expression turned a bit cold. “So, you still care about Albert? You don’t want the Morris family’s hotel’s reputation to be damaged?”
Florence shook her head. “Of course not. Like I said before, this hotel was Madam Morris‘ life’s work. She valued its reputation, so I don’t want to see it go under.”
Charles asked her, “She was good to you?”
Florence nodded. “Yes, she was very good to me. It’s just a shame I can’t be her granddaughter anymore.”

After getting his answers, Charles‘ expression softened considerably. He gestured for Florence to sit on the sofa. “That woman’s death does have something to do with me, but I didn’t kill her. You could say she brought it on herself.”
Florence then learned that the woman had been sent to
assassinate Charles.
The woman introduced herself to Charles as a representative of a foreign company, wanting to discuss business. However, she arrived at his room dressed rather provocatively, even bringing a bottle of red wine.
Despite the woman’s striking beauty, Charles remained unfazed and quickly grew suspicious of her intentions. While she wasn’t looking, he switched the wine glasses. The woman, completely unaware, drank the wine.
“After finishing the wine, I pretended to feel unwell. The woman readily left. The next day, the hotel staff found her dead in her bed, her face a ghastly blue. That’s how she died.”
Charles finished his story and looked at Florence, who seemed lost in thought. “Do you believe me?” he asked.
“I do,” Florence replied, looking up without a moment’s hesitation.

seemed to cross his mind, and a smile suddenly played on his lips.
His smile was charming, almost mesmerizing, the kind that could easily make one lose themselves in it.
Florence, however, looked at him with a puzzled expression, unsure why he was smiling.
After a moment, she hesitantly asked, “Mr. Foster, were you not telling me the truth?”
“Everything I said was true,” he replied. “I’m just surprised that you trust me so much after knowing me for less than a month. It’s quite astonishing.”
Charles‘ words caused a slight pang of guilt in Florence’s heart.
After all, having lived through her life once before, she knew all too well that Charles had survived numerous assassination attempts before becoming president.
Of course, she couldn’t reveal this. Instead, she smiled and said to Charles, “Mr. Foster, your decision to invest five billion dollars in Brooks Group so readily showed immense trust. Why wouldn’t I believe you?”
A smile played on Charles‘ lips. “So, what are you going to do next, Florence? Tell Albert the truth?”

Florence shook her head without hesitation. “I won’t let Albert find out, and I’m not planning to disclose the actual cause of that woman’s death. Otherwise, we’ll be swamped with reporters hounding you for interviews.
“Even if you’re innocent, once this gets out, it’ll be a real pain to deal with.”
Whether it was because of their partnership or not, Florence’s concern for him touched Charles.
“Don’t you worry about a thing, Mr. Foster,” Florence assured him. “That woman already destroyed the security cameras, so no one will know she was ever in your room, let alone that she had any contact with you.
“No one will suspect you. I’ll tell the police that she probably made some enemies, and that’s why she was killed.”
Charles nodded. “Alright, I trust you.”
With that settled, Florence was about to leave when the doorbell suddenly rang incessantly, as if someone was frantically pressing
- it.
Charles frowned and went to open the door, Florence following behind. She thought to herself that if it were hotel staff, she’d give them a piece of her mind.
The door opened to reveal Albert, his face contorted with rage.

His eyes immediately landed on Florence standing behind Charles, and his face turned an even uglier shade of green. “I’m still at the hotel, and you couldn’t even wait before running off to another man’s room? Have you no shame?” Albert spat, his fury mounting.
