Chapter 24 Checking Accounts
Florence shot Albert a cold, cutting look. “We will get divorced, sooner or later. But today, I came here to work.”
“What?” Albert blinked, sure he had misheard her.
“I don’t repeat myself. Get me an office,” Florence said, her tone. sharp with impatience.
“Are you serious, Florence? When did I ever say you could come to the company?” Albert was taken aback by her sheer audacity.
Florence sneered. “The company isn’t yours alone. I can come whenever I want. Do I really need your permission?”
Albert stared at her, taken off guard. “How is it not mine? I’m the boss here,” he said, his voice carrying the weight of authority. His certainty only seemed to annoy her more.
“You were just handed the responsibility of managing the branch, not the entire company,” she shot back, her cold expression making his stomach drop.
Albert tried to soften his tone. “I know you’re still upset with me, but there’s nothing between me and Isabella. I promised I wouldn’t let her work here for now, didn’t I? Florence, please. Don’t make this harder than it has to be.”
Florence’s stomach churned at his gentle tone, and she felt a wave of disgust.

But now wasn’t the time to burn all bridges with Albert. She just snorted and said, “I’m coming to work here, whether you like it or not.”
Albert, not wanting to escalate things further, reluctantly arranged an office for her. He wasn’t sure what to expect from Florence anymore, but he didn’t want to push her any further.
Florence wasted no time. She called the finance department head to her office and demanded an audit of the books.
The department head hesitated. “Madam, does Mr. Morris know about this?”
“Are you questioning me?” Florence’s voice grew cold. “If my orders aren’t good enough for you, I’ll have a new finance. director in no time.”
Seeing her serious expression, the department head had no choice but to hand over the account books.
Once he did, he planned to go and inform Albert, but Florence. stopped him. “Stay right here.”
The finance head, unable to leave, stood awkwardly in the office as Florence swiftly flipped through the accounts, finishing in less than half an hour. She now had a clear picture of things.
“You’re free to go now.”
She handed the account books back to him, dismissing him

without another word.
The department head didn’t return to his office right away. Instead, he went straight to inform Albert.

“She looked through the accounts?” Albert asked, stunned. He hadn’t expected Florence to do something like that.
“Yes, Mr. Morris. But she finished in half an hour and didn’t say anything. Honestly, I’m starting to think she might not even understand them,” the department head said, recalling how Florence had glanced through the accounts without showing any real emotion. It seemed like she was just pretending to know what she was doing.
Albert let out a quiet sigh of relief. He then dismissed the department head.
It seemed like Florence was just looking for something to occupy herself with.
It was soon lunchtime, and Florence was heading to the cafeteria. But as she stepped out of her office, she spotted Isabella walking by with a lunchbox in hand.
At that moment, Isabella hadn’t seen her. Florence quickly turned back into her office, and after a while, when she stepped out again, Isabella was gone. She must have gone to Albert’s office.
A cold smile played on Florence’s lips.

“Albert, I made lunch for you. Try it and let me know if it tastes good.”
In Albert’s office, Isabella was carefully unpacking the lunchbox, her face soft with a gentle smile.
Albert raised an eyebrow in surprise. He hadn’t expected Isabella to show up.
If Florence hadn’t come, he would’ve been happy to see her, but right now, this wasn’t exactly the best timing.
“Isabella…”
Before he could finish, the door suddenly opened.
Florence walked in, her eyes cold as she looked at both Albert and Isabella.
“Didn’t you say you were going to keep Isabella away from the company for a week? It’s only been two days, and here she is already. Albert, how can you even manage a company when you can’t even keep your word?”
Isabella froze, surprised to see Florence here.
“Florence, what’s going on? What brings you here?” Isabella asked, trying to mask her surprise.
Florence shot her a blank look. “This company is mine. Why
can’t I come?”

“This company is Albert’s, not yours,” Isabella immediately fired.
back.
Florence smirked coldly. “This company was originally set up by my father to give me some experience. I didn’t care to manage it, so I handed it over to Albert. He’s just a stand–in. How did it become his? And you, who are you to question me?”
