Melanie kindly said, “Alright, I promise to give you a chance to speak. But it’s not possible to talk alone. I am married, so I have to consider my husband’s feelings and avoid suspicion. Also, I can only give you twenty minutes, I don’t have any more time.”
Saying that, Melanie glanced at her watch, “Countdown starts now.”
If it were in the past, Jordan would never have dreamed that he would kneel down without dignity and bark like a dog just to have a twenty–minute conversation with Melanie.
But now, Jordan has found that Melanie had already occupied an important part in his life, even more important than his dignity.
However, he may have realized it too late.
Jordan let out a bitter laugh and said, “Melanie, I’m sorry, I did too much to hurt you.”
“Once upon a time, you were always by my side, helping me with my career, cooking delicious meals for me, taking care of everything for me. You were so good to me, for a whole twelve years. At first, I was touched, but maybe because being favored always makes one feel invincible, my gratitude slowly faded away, and I eventually took your kindness for granted, with a heart as cold as a wolf and as ungrateful as a dog.”
“I became arrogant, I became inflated, and I was also influenced by the voices around me. It was as if I was convinced that Melanie couldn’t live without Jordan, like stars revolving around the moon.”
“I started hurting you over and over again, trampling on your sincerity, making you shed many tears and endure a lot of grievances. But foolish Melanie still compromised because of her love for me, and this scoundrel became even more unscrupulous.” Jordan took a deep breath, already choked up. “This scoundrel thought that because Melanie loved him so much, he could just say a few sweet words and give her some gifts to appease her.”
So, he repeatedly disappointed Melanie’s expectations, hurt her time and time again, and didn’t care about Melanie’s feelings. Even if Melanie’s soul was crying out for help to this jerk, he ignored it. What’s even more outrageous is that, because of a momentary novelty, he actually didn’t keep his promise to
Melanie and married someone else.
Jordan sobbed, “He forgot, the repeated hurts really can push the person you love away. Melanie really doesn’t want him anymore…”
Towards the end, Jordan was at a loss for words. It took him quite a while to calm down before he continued, “Melanie, it has always been you that I have loved, even when we were young and full of passion at eighteen. It’s just that, I lost sight of my original intentions over the long years, and it was only
when I lost you that I finally realized it, and it broke my heart.”
“You occupied a very, very important place in my life, but I got used to your company, used to your goodness. It was only when you left that I realized.”
The usually proud Jordan bent his back and looked at Melanie humbly, saying, “Melanie, could you… give me another chance? I promise I won’t hurt you anymore. I will treat you well and spend the rest of my life making up for my mistakes.”
Melanie laughed, “Compensation? The damage has already been done, can a casual compensation erase it? Your apologies, those casual words of yours are really valuable.”
“Jordan, am I that cheap in your heart? Every time you turn around, I just wait for you right there?”
Jordan’s face turned pale as he shook his head, “Melanie, I didn’t mean that. I was just…”
“Jordan, but your actions speak for themselves. After all the harm you have done to me, how dare you have the audacity to seek forgiveness from me? Or is your memory not good, so forgetful? Well, let me remind you.”
