Chapter 9
My heart tightened, and I exchanged a glance with Aydan, not daring to breathe.
On ordinary days, Layla used to disdain going to the basement. She felt like a lady and believed that she shouldn’t go to such a dark place.
In order to protect herself, she threw herself to the basement door and, after pulling open the old door, she found another incredibly sturdy door inside.
Layla was dumbfounded, while Ahmed, on the other hand, had a wide grin on his face, revealing an insatiable greed.
He flung Layla, who was blocking the doorway, aside: “There must be something good inside.”
She turned around and looked at Layla, who was as still as a statue, and asked her, “Is there someone in there?”
Layla was covered in bruises and lying on the ground, gritting her teeth. “My dear mother, is it you? Weren’t you supposed to love me the most? Why were you hiding inside and not coming out to save me?”
In the end, her voice turned into a roar.
She pounded on the basement door frantically, “Caitlin Fleming! Get out of there, Caitlin!”
I covered Aleah’s ears and told her not to be afraid, “This door is very strong, and bad people can’t come in.”
Ahmed took Jayvon and Rory to the kitchen and they took turns chopping with a kitchen knife for two days.
Until they had eaten all the leftover food in the house, licking the plates until they were shiny.
The door remained motionless.
Layla was on the verge of starvation because she had not been allocated any food.
Ahmed stared at her and shouted loudly at the basement door, “Caitlin, listen to me, if you don’t open the door, I will throw your daughter into the freezing cold and let her freeze to death! I will count to three!”
“Three! Two! One!”
I didn’t say anything.
Ahmed crazily grabbed Layla and threw her out of the window.
Layla cried out in agony, and her cries reached my ears through the walls.
“Mom! I was wrong, Mom! Only you truly love me! They don’t love me at all, they just want money! They even hit me!”
“Mom, I was wrong, please, can you save me?”
“I really… knew I was wrong.”
Soon, Layla’s voice became quieter and quieter.
Ahmed slammed the door, making a loud noise. “Your daughter was dying. If you don’t come out and save her, she will be dead!”
But I will always remember, in the previous life, how she cruelly threw my Aleah out of the window, watching her being buried by the heavy snow.
I would never risk my life to save such a treacherous snake–hearted wolf.
However, Aydan hesitated.
He turned around, put on his coat and prepared to leave, but I knocked him out with a club and tied him up
with a rope.
I couldn’t let my child be in danger anymore, so Aydan must not go out to save Layla.
At the moment when I knocked him out, I had already prepared myself for the end of the world, knowing that he would blame me and cruelly divorce me.
Another three days had passed.
Suddenly, I heard a muffled sound.
I quickly took out my phone to check and found out that Jayvon and Rory, who were extremely hungry, had thrown Jaycee and Ahmed out: “Hurry up and go find something to eat, or you’ll starve outside!”
No matter how much the couple cried and argued outside, Ahmed and Jayvon remained unmoved.
Realizing the reality, they walked outside, hoping to find a way out, but soon disappeared in the heavy snow.

Outside the door, Jayvon and Rory were so hungry that they had no energy to shout.
They sobbed uncontrollably, lying on the ground and banging on the door, begging me for something to eat.
I knew very well that they made them eat until they were full, and the ones who died were just the three of us in our family, so I was not moved.
Aydan had not spoken to me for three days. When I turned around, I noticed tears welling up in his eyes as he looked at me.
In confusion, he hugged me tightly and said, “Caitlin, I had the same dream as you, were they all real? Thank you for saving me, thank you for protecting our daughter.”
“I would not have been soft–hearted towards that family, this time, I would have definitely protected you and Aleah, we would have definitely waited until
dawn.”
I hugged him back, tears streaming down my face.
Another month passed, and the heavy snow finally stopped.
There were a total of five corpses in my house, three males and two females.
I called the police and narrated everything to them. Afterwards, I sold the villa and went to a warm city with Aydan, starting a new life with Aleah.
