Seraphina felt her world go silent in that moment.
Her eyes bloodshot, she glared at the officer on duty. “What are you talking about?! How could Julian possibly be involved in *my* car accident \case?!”
The officer, seeing Seraphina’s furious state, dared not speak, afraid of saying the wrong thing and losing his job.
A few officers wiped sweat from their brows. Finally, the officer who had initially handled Seraphina’s car accident case spoke up.
“Miss Sterling, the victim’s family’s name is indeed Julian. He was here that day when you came, but you refused to see him.”
Seraphina collapsed onto the floor.
“How is that possible? How could the victims be Mom and Chloe?”
Seraphina desperately grabbed her assistant’s arm. “You handled this! Tell me! What exactly happened?”
Trembling, the assistant pulled out the pictures on his phone and showed them to Seraphina, on the verge of tears.
“Miss Sterling, isn’t this your husband, the victim’s family?”
Seraphina immediately saw me sitting in a pool of blood, then my lifeless mother, and finally, Chloe with an arm severed.
She zoomed in on the photo in disbelief. When she saw that the little girl in the picture was indeed Chloe,
She began to retch uncontrollably.
Her drunken memories slowly resurfaced. Seraphina clutched her head, screaming in agony.
“How could I have done something like this!”
But then, Seraphina suddenly seemed to remember something and lifted her head.
“What about my identity? Did any of you tell Julian?”
Both the assistant and the officers lowered their heads. Seraphina’s face turned ashen. She pounded the ground with her fists.
“I’m a monster!”
Dominic and I stood from a distance, observing everything.
He watched with folded arms, then squinted at me.
“Seeing Seraphina like this, it must feel pretty good, right?”
But I didn’t answer his question. My gaze remained fixed on Seraphina.
“You were the one who bleed

“You were the one who hired me that day, weren’t you?”
Dominic didn’t deny it, shrugging.
“I just thought it was too pathetic for you to remain in the dark. It’s better to tell you the truth. Maybe you’d give up and leave on your own. Looks like I was right.”
Dominic’s gaze swept over the luggage in my hand.
“You’re just too foolish. Why didn’t you take this opportunity to demand more money from Seraphina?”
I looked at Dominic’s face, finding him terrifying.
“You think I’d thank you for telling me the truth? You’re Seraphina’s accomplice!”
Dominic laughed heartily, walking around me, sizing me up.
“Tsk, I didn’t do any of this for your gratitude. I just wanted to eliminate a nuisance for the Sterling family and pave my own way.
“I should be thanking you. Thank you for giving up Seraphina. Her family has already received the news. Soon, you might even receive an invitation to Seraphina’s and my wedding.”
I thought I would never again feel a pang of pain over anything concerning Seraphina. Yet, hearing that news, my heart still felt as if a large hand had squeezed it tight, making it hard to breathe.
Seraphina and I didn’t even have a wedding back then, just a small marriage certificate.
To save all our money for Seraphina’s medicine, we didn’t even dare to eat a decent meal that day.
Dominic seemed to read my thoughts.
“You don’t know, do you? Your marriage certificate with Seraphina is fake!”
