Chapter 22
Afterwards, they traveled to various places, and Carmen bought Evelynne many precious jewels. Every day, there were clear signs of their affection.
At first, some pack members were confused and protested. But within days, the tide turned in Evelynne’s favor. They claimed they were truly meant for
each other, and with Liora gone, the Luna position was now open.
Carmen wanted to deny it, but he couldn’t reveal his true intentions to anyone. He endured hearing others belittle Liora as he and Evelynne appeared together openly in public.
One night, Evelynne slipped into Carmen’s bed wearing only a silk robe, her alluring figure unmistakable. She clung to him, purring softly as she rubbed her smooth thigh against him. But he felt no desire, only exhaustion and weariness.
Carmen coldly pushed her away.
“I’m not in the mood tonight. Maybe next time.”
Evelynne’s face immediately soured. She bit her lip and pressed herself back against him, disregarding his rejection.
“We only have five days. What’s wrong with touching me once? Carmen, are you really that cold?”
Carmen’s expression darkened further. He roughly shoved her off the bed, sending her sprawling to the floor.
“These five days mean nothing, Evelynne! Don’t push it–I only love Liora. I’ll never touch you.”
Evelynne sneered coldly.
“Your words are pretty, but you’ve slept with me more than once before. If this ends without success, don’t expect to see Liora ever again!”
Carmen’s heart ached painfully, filled with a desperate urge to kill the person in front of him. But his longing to see Liora was even stronger–if only once, even if she never forgave him afterward. As long as he could see her, Carmen was willing to do anything.
Humiliated, he picked Evelynne up off the floor and laid her on the bed, then gently pressed himself over her. Evelynne smiled triumphantly, her slender arms wrapping around his neck, but to him, those hands felt like shackles.
He took from her what she wanted time and again, acting out love with the woman he hated, shaking the bed with force.
His mind involuntarily flashed to Liora–they had never shared a single proper moment of intimacy.
He bit his lip to hold back the pain and threw himself into the act even harder.
They didn’t stop until dawn, and Evelynne fell asleep contentedly.

After that, they continued their charade of love.
The next day, they dined by candlelight at the town’s most expensive restaurant. Carmen carefully cut his steak into bite–sized pieces, feeding them to Evelynne, who savored each one happily.
When Evelynne accidentally fell into the river, Carmen plunged in without hesitation, risking his own life to save her. When she lost consciousness, he performed CPR for half an hour before reviving her. The whole rescue was caught on video and went viral online. Everyone was convinced their love was
real.
Liora’s name slowly faded from memory. No one remembered that Carmen once had a Luna, a sworn enemy, and a mate who loved him deeply.
Carmen was terrified. He didn’t want Liora’s traces to disappear from his life, but he was powerless to stop it.
He could only cling to the belief that his choice was right.
When Evelynne demanded control of his pack, Carmen didn’t hesitate to give her half of the decision–making power, effectively making her co–ruler.
This move was tantamount to handing over the pack to Evelynne, and it alarmed his family. They summoned Carmen back overnight and confronted him.
His expression unchanged as Carmen said firmly, “Because I love her.”
Chester, the former Alpha and Carmen’s grandfather, angrily hurled his cane at him.
“Ridiculous! Your grandmother had you seal the mate bond with such a good she–wolf like Liora, and now you do this? You disgrace your grandmother’s “Ridiculo
honor! Do you even have the dignity to visit her grave?”
Carmen remained silent. He knew he’d lost the right to visit his grandmother or Liora’s family, but this was his last chance.
His voice hoarse, he repeated,

“The one I love is Evelynne. I’m willing to give her everything.”
That day, Carmen was whipped ninety–nine times, his body battered and bruised. Yet he crawled back to the pack house, looking toward Evelynne with a flicker of hope.
“Today is the fifth day, Evelynne.”
