Chapter 5
The moment I stepped outside, Patrick’s name popped up on my phone.
I turned my phone off and looked up, catching Jacob Donovan’s satisfied
gaze.
He pulled out a light pink helmet from behind him and awkwardly but carefully placed it on my head.
Flashing me a grin, he said, “Hop on, I’ll give you a ride.”
At first, I felt a little tense, but now I was enjoying every second. I closed my eyes and stretched out my arms, letting the soft evening breeze wash
over me.

The gloomy feelings I’d been carrying lately started to fade with the beauty of the night around us.
I tapped Jacob’s back and asked, “When did you get back?”
“Huh?”
He didn’t catch it even after I repeated it several times. Growing impatient,
I leaned in and wrapped my arms around his waist, bringing my face closer to his neck. “I said, when did you come back?”
The sound of sudden brakes echoed along the quiet road.
“I’m driving, stop squirming!”
He was clearly scolding me, but I wasn’t scared at all. When I noticed. how red his ears were, I giggled and shouted, “Why are your ears so red?”
He stiffly slipped on his helmet and muttered, “That’s none of your
business.
“I’m taking you home.”
“Okay,” I replied, sitting back with a sigh.
But soon, I realized this wasn’t the way to my house.
He said, “I figured you weren’t ready to go home yet, so I’m bringing you to see my new place.”
“Sure,” I replied, wrapping my arms around his waist with a cheerful grin.
Jacob and I had known each other since we were little. He used to live. right next door and even went to the same school. He followed me around constantly, always asking me to walk together.
Back then, Patrick was only five years older, but everyone already saw him as the future heir of the Huxley family. He was busy learning how to run a business and didn’t have time to hang out with me anymore, so I found someone else to spend time with.
Back when I was still in high school, he suddenly told me he couldn’t go to school with me anymore.
“Why not?” I asked.
With tears in his eyes, Jacob said, “My parents want me to study overseas. I tried to say no, but it was useless.”
I held back the sadness inside me and gave his shoulder a light tap. “It’s alright. We’ll see each other again when you come back.”
Right before he left, he leaned close and murmured, “I think your brother acts weird around you.”

I didn’t get what he meant back then.
After that, anyone who got even a little friendly with me, boy or girl, would start avoiding me the next day.
I couldn’t understand it. I kept wondering if I was just hard to like.
But luckily, Jacob came back now.
I wasn’t by myself anymore.
His new place left me speechless.
“Just like I thought, it’s super fancy,” I said.
Lounging on the sofa, he looked relaxed and smug. “Obviously. I only go for top quality.”
Still full of himself. I laughed and turned my head away.
“Are you going to leave again after this?” I asked.
He replied, “Nope. Someone here needs me. I’m staying.”
While saying that, Jacob held back his emotions and looked unusually
serious.
After moving abroad, he kept doing well in school and put in a lot of effort. He got accepted early into one of the top universities in Britain and even graduated ahead of time.
Whether he stayed or not didn’t really make much of a difference to his future.
I didn’t hang around his place too long before I asked him to bring me home.
Chapter
When we arrived, all the lights were on, and Patrick was on the sofa. looking upset.
I tucked away my smile and greeted him politely, “Hi, Patrick.”
He looked surprised for a second, then tightened his lips and seemed even more annoyed.
“Where did you go?” he asked sharply.
“Jacob just came back. I was showing him around,” I replied.
The moment he heard that name, something cold flashed in his eyes.
He looked straight at me and said, “Georgia, just because you’re in college doesn’t mean you should be thinking about dating. Girls should have self- respect.”
