Chapter 5
On the wedding day, Roman arrived early with Ivy to prepare backstage.[]
Noticing Roman checking the time with a frown, Ivy complained, “How can Serena be late on such an important day?“]}]
Roman was about to say something but quickly dismissed the thought.[]
Ivy continued, “If Serena cares so little about you, why are you still marrying her?“|[]
“Roman, she’s not worthy of you. Only I truly care about you. Don’t forget what you promised me.“[]
Thinking of her words at the bridal shop, Roman hesitated.[]
Just then, word came from the emcee that the scheduled time was almost upon them.]
Seeing Roman’s uncertainty, Ivy grabbed his hand and led him onto the stage, telling the emcee to proceed as planned.[]
When the couple appeared, guests immediately praised them as a perfect match, handsome groom and beautiful bride.[]
Ivy was basking in the compliments until the next moment, when her smile froze.[]
At the same time, Roman’s face turned ashen as he saw what was playing on the large screen.
Instead of the sweet video Ivy had prepared, it was my carefully crafted wedding gift–a documentary–style video about this wedding.
My voice resonated through every corner of the venue: “Hello everyone, I’m the first bride. The woman on stage now is the second. This wedding was originally planned for me…‘
The video played for several minutes, with the most crucial parts already shown.[]
Ivy finally snapped out of her shock and ordered someone to stop the video, but no one could turn it off.
After regaining his composure, Roman calmly instructed someone to pull the power cord.
Ivy sighed with relief when the screen went dark.]
What she didn’t know was that Roman had promised me a live–streamed wedding.
The incident had already been uploaded online.[]
By then, it had already created a massive stir–not only were the guests buzzing with gossip, but internet users were also discussing it heatedly.
This visibility was partly thanks to my mother, who had promoted the wedding extensively beforehand to impress the Thornfield family.
With Roman’s status as a CEO and his business prominence, the attention was considerable.]
Seeing the situation, Roman attempted damage control: “Ladies and gentlemen, I apologize for this insignificant mishap. It must have been a staff error. I will personally demand an explanation from those responsible.”
His words were immediately contradicted: “We made no mistakes. The video was confirmed with you multiple times before being
played. This has nothing to do with us.“[]
The event staff began whispering among themselves:
“Who knew rich people had so many tricks up their sleeves, switching brides like changing clothes…“[]
“If you ask me, the woman on the screen is the real love. This one here is probably just a business arrangement…“]]
“I don’t buy that. I think she stole someone else’s man, like everyone’s saying.”
Roman frowned and ordered his security to remove the person who had spoken up.[]
The venue quieted down considerably.
Ivy, still shaken, turned to asked Roman, “What do we do now?“]
Remembering this was a livestreamed wedding, Roman tried to comfort Ivy, hoping to reassure her so they could complete the geremony.
But Ivy had never faced such a public embarrassment. She couldn’t focus with all the guests whispering and pointing at her, so she rolled her eyes back and fainted.[]
Seeing this, Roman’s face darkened.
He told the housekeeper, “The wedding cannot be canceled. Otherwise, I’ll be the biggest joke in the city tomorrow.”
“I don’t care what methods you use–wake her up immediately, or don’t bother returning to the Thornfield household.“[]
The housekeeper, recalling scenes from television, ordered a basin of ice water.
As a servant approached Ivy with the water, someone tripped them, causing the ice water to splash all over Ivy, ruining her carefully prepared appearance.
Surprisingly, Ivy didn’t react at all.
The housekeeper panicked, never expecting things to turn out this way. Then, having heard from someone that pain stimulation might wake her up, he began to slap Ivy across the face.[]
After a moment, Ivy finally came to, touching her swollen cheek. In a rage, she screamed, “Serena Chase, you fucking bitch! You couldn’t even leave quietly–you’re trying to ruin me! I’ll kill you!“]
The crowd’s perception of her instantly changed.
Roman, his face like ice, quietly instructed the housekeeper to take her backstage to freshen up.
For the sake of Thornfield Enterprises and his own reputation, the wedding had to continue.
But Ivy could no longer withstand the strange looks and whispers. She broke down and fled the venue.]
In the end, this so–called “grand wedding” finally came to a close.
Everyone had left, leaving only a grim–faced groom standing motionless in place, unable to move for the longest time…]
