While You Weep at Your Empty Altar 2

Chapter

This was originally meant to be my wedding gift to Roman, hoping to make him happy on our special day

But now, it seems it will never be used

The next day, I prepared my resignation letter, intending to leave the company.[

As soon as I arrived at the office, my colleaguesstrange looks landed on me

I was used to this by now and calmly returned to my desk.[

Looking at everyone’s sour expressions, I couldn’t help but wonder what new lies Ivy had spread about me this time

She had always gossiped about me behind my back. Initially, I didn’t care, thinking it wasn’t important, but as the misunderstandings deepened, my attempts to explain only came across as excuses. Eventually, I stopped trying to defend myself and let them believe what they wanted.

Just as I was pouring myself some tea, my phone exploded with 99+ notifications from Ivy.

I didn’t even need to open them to know they were

of her sweet moments with Roman.[

Each photo had a timestamp in the bottom right cornershe really didn’t waste a minute documenting their time together

I never realized Roman could be so patient. In all our years together, he’d never shown me this side of himself.[

And he’d never smiled so genuinely

In every photo, Roman was beaming with joyan expression I’d never witnessed before

Once, I carefully selected a camera and spent months learning photography just to surprise him on his birthday.[

Instead of appreciation, his face immediately fell as he sternly said, I’ve hated having my picture taken since childhood. As my fiancée, how could you not know that?

Serena, stop pretending you understand me. It’s disgusting.”

Because of that, he didn’t speak to me for an entire month

Later, it was only after I spent two consecutive months helping him complete critical projectswork that ultimately helped him get promoted to Vice Presidentthat he finally decided to acknowledge me again.

Love and indifference are truly obvious when you see them side by side.[

When you love someone, you remember all their preferences and dislikes. Even when displeased, you treasure their sincerity.

With this thought, I put away my phone and submitted my resignation letter to HR.[

As I prepared to hand over my ongoing work, I glanced at my files and realized there wasn’t much left

I previously had several projects, but Roman had recently taken them away to please Ivy

So, the handover wouldn’t take much time at all.

While organizing my files, the project department manager approached me with a rejected bid document, demanding answers.[

Manager Chase, you’ve always been responsible for this project, and now the client says there are problems with the proposal. I need a reasonable explanation.

Hearing this, my colleagueswho had been fed stories by Ivy about how I mistreated herfinally saw an opportunity to serve justiceand couldn’t wait to be rid of me

Manager Chase, how could you mess up such an important project? Don’t you know how much Mr. Thornfield values this account?

I don’t understand why she was put in charge of the proposal. If Team Leader Lawrence had handled it, this would never have happened.”

Do you think her salary is enough to compensate for this loss

Compensate? Can she even afford it? If you ask me, she should just get lost

Ignoring their comments, I glanced at the proposal’s title and laughed coldly. This project wasn’t my responsibility. It was Ivy’s.

Fiona, Ivy’s little shadow who followed her everywhere, immediately snapped, Oh please, can’t even own up to your mistakes? Could you be any more shameless?”

This was clearly your project, and now you’re trying to blame Team Leader Lawrence? Do you think we’re all blind?”

Other colleagues quickly joined in, backing her up

At that moment, HR approached to inform me my resignation had been approved.[

Seeing this, Fiona sneered, Thinking of quitting now? Too late. You should be figuring out how to compensate the company for its losses and explain yourself to Mr. Thornfield!]]

The company should have gotten rid of a troublemaker like you long ago. If it weren’t for Team Leader Lawrence’s kind heart always opposing Mr. Thornfield’s desire to kick you out, you’d have been gone ages ago]

Before she could finish, others suggested I be immediately removed from the building, saying a jinxlike me was bad for the company’s development

Within minutes, they had stuffed my belongings into a black garbage bag and tossed it outside the company entrance like trash. Fiona, leading the charge, looked at me still standing there and said with contempt, Serena, must we physically remove you as well?[]

I looked at Fiona’s smug expression. This opportunistic nobody dared to act high and mighty with me

With complete composure, I stepped forward and slapped her twice across the face. Then, amid everyone’s shocked expressions, I walked out of the company
