I didn’t see what there was to celebrate. Sam
broke up with me.
I was just giving him what he wanted.
Sam had already gone on vacation with Max, so it wouldn’t be right for me to show up at his birthday.
Besides, I’d already booked my flight to go to UCLA tomorrow.
I didn’t have time to celebrate Sam’s birthday.
But everyone assumed I was a lovesick puppy. so Sam’s friend hung up before I could explain.
The next morning, I left the Bradford’s house, where I’d lived for ten years, and went to the

After checking my luggage, I went to check–in.
But I ran into Mitch.
When he saw me, he came over. “You here to
pick up Sam? He’ll be out any minute!” Mitch
said, dialing Sam’s number. “Sam, Sunnie’s here
to pick you up!”
I rolled my eyes and headed for the counter.
I didn’t care what Mitch said to Sam. I was
leaving soon.
None of that had anything to do with me.
When Sam got off the plane, his buddy Mitch told him that Sunnie was there to pick him up.
Hearing that, his face lit up.

Sam turned to Max, who was trailing behind.

He couldn’t stand being on vacation with Max. He had Mitch call Sunnie, reminding her about his birthday, and asked her to pick him up from
the airport.
On the way back, Sam had a bad feeling. He
felt like something was out of his control.
It wasn’t until he got a call from Mitch that he
calmed down.
He’d missed Sunnie so much. This would be the
last time he treated her this way.
When Sam came out of the VIP exit, holding at
bouquet of roses, he looked for Sunnie.
