Chapter 7
Brian helped me create a new identity as a wealthy girl recently returned from abroad who just happened to show up at a charity event.
When I stepped on stage, all the men’s eyes were on me. I turned down dance invitations one after another.
Finally, Connor appeared.
The moment he saw me, his pupils shrank, and he hurried toward me.

I grabbed the arm of the man beside me and slid onto the dance floor.
Connor waited while I danced, but his eyes grew red with anger as he watched me get close to my partner.
After the last dance, he couldn’t hold back anymore. He grabbed my hand tightly and pleaded, “Stephanie, is it you? Why don’t you go home?
“And look at how you’re dressed–showing your arms and legs. Where’s our son? Why didn’t you bring him? Is this how a mother acts?”
I didn’t reply, just raising my eyebrows with a mocking look.
He scratched his hair in frustration.
“There was a misunderstanding back then. Take Levi home first. I’ll explain later.
“And remember to make hangover soup. Minnie will come by to drink it.”
I sneered and told the bodyguards to take him away.
“Sir, if you’re drunk, go to bed. I just got back to America. I don’t have a

husband or a child.”
Connor was stunned. He stared at me a few times and reluctantly let go of my hand.
“Sorry, you remind me so much of my wife. She ran away a long time ago. I miss her a lot.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. If I weren’t involved, I might have felt sorry for him.
He looked confused and asked why I was laughing, so I explained, “I’ve never met someone so sentimental. If it’s okay, why don’t you give me your contact info?”
He quickly pulled out his business card with a trembling hand, his eyes fixed on me.
After I got the card, I waited a few days before making a move.
A hospital cleaner told me Connor had lost his appetite lately and was distracted during work. Many patients complained about him.
When he and Minnie argued again, I knew it was time.
I sent him a friend request.
“Sorry, Dr. Johnston. I was held up earlier.”
He accepted almost immediately. I guessed he was glued to his phone.
Talking to him was easy, especially since he was interested.
I tossed my phone to Brian.
“Brian, chat with him for a bit. I need some sleep.”

I didn’t have time to message Connor every day. Did he think everyone liked him?
That night, I checked his messages. It was mostly memories of the past and complaints about Minnie.
“Ms. Ziegler, you truly look like my wife, but you’re more delicate and beautiful.
“You’re like a mix of my junior and my wife–elegant, beautiful, gentle, and kind.
“My junior forced me to marry her again today like a crazy woman. Unlike you–you never lose your temper.”
I closed my phone. I wouldn’t lose my temper with him because I didn’t love him at all, but some things needed to be done the right way.
Minnie’s second account had been secretly following me on Instagram for a while. I sent her something special every day.
Today, I posted a photo of a ring with the caption.
“He said I’m different from everyone else.”
Sure enough, Minnie came to me the next day. I couldn’t wait to see her reaction.
When we met at the café, she looked like she’d seen a ghost, her face turning pale.
“You’re still alive?”
