Chapter 5
A servant stood at the door, sounding a bit snobby. “Ms. Huston, Mr. Argent is pretty drunk. He says he wants some pumpkin soup. Can you. get up and make it for him?”
Alaricka lowered her eyes.
In her past life, she used to make pumpkin soup for Kieran whenever he got home from a night out, trying to make him happy.
Maybe that was why he started treating her like another servant.
But now, she didn’t want to be a servant a
anymore.
She lay back down and closed her eyes. “You guys make it for him.”
The servant looked puzzled and a bit annoyed as she stared at the lump in
the bed.
She thought, “Alaricka is just the daughter of Sir Argent’s driver. Why should I have to do what she said?”
“Ms. Huston, this is something you should be doing,” she pressed.
But Alarieka ignored her.
After a while, the servant glared at the lump in the bed and slowly closed the door.
Kieran stepped out of his room after taking a shower and noticed the kitchen light on downstairs, with the faint clatter of bowls and pots.
He closed his eyes, raised his hand, and rubbed his temple with his

knuckles to ease the discomfort from drinking.
Without giving it much thought, he went downstairs and sat on the living room sofa, closing his eyes to rest.
Five minutes later, the servant came out of the kitchen with a bowl of pumpkin soup and put it in front of him.
“Mr. Argent, the soup is a bit hot. Be careful.”
Hearing a voice that was totally different from what he expected, Kieran opened his eyes and looked at the servant. His brow furrowed a little.
“What are you doing here?”
The servant carefully watched his face, a flash of malice in her eyes.
She thought, “This job should have been Alarieka’s. She passes the buck, and now I have to serve Mr. Argent.
“Ms. Huston won’t budge. I’ve called her over and over. Mr. Argent, you gotta lay down the law. She can’t keep this up.”
Hearing this, Kieran looked towards Alarieka’s room.
Her door faced the living room directly and was clearly visible.
It was tightly closed. Just as the servant had said, she seemed to be asleep.
Kieran picked up the bowl, looking calm and indifferent.
“Got it.”
He took a sip, and his brow furrowed.
The servant got worried. “Mr. Argent, doesn’t it taste good?”
Kieran took another sip but didn’t say anything.

The taste was definitely different.
Alaricka had been with the Argent family since she was fourteen.
Half a year later, she started making this pumpkin soup for him.
She liked sweet stuff and assumed everyone else did too, so she added a lot of sugar to the soup, making it quite sweet.
Kieran didn’t like sweet things and had a hard time getting used to them at first.
He didn’t want to be too harsh because Alaricka was still young, so he tried to gently tell her to stop making it. But she didn’t seem to get the hint and kept making it.
After a while, he got used to the sweet soup.
This bowl of soup was pretty bland, and he didn’t like it.
He took a couple of sips and put it down.
The servant was surprised and looked at him carefully. “Mr. Argent, aren’t you gonna eat anymore?”
She was a bit nervous because he looked kind of upset.
But she had tasted it just now, and it was okay.
Kieran nodded and went upstairs.
