Leo was sitting on the couch.
He stood up when he saw me.
“There’s porridge in the kitchen.”
“I’m not hungry.”
I couldn’t look at him. “I’m late. I gotta go.”
I walked out.
Leo said, “Regret it?”
“Huh?”
“You called me over there. Now your coworkers
know you’re dating a trash picker.”
I blinked.
He thought I was embarrassed because of his
job?
Now I understood.
Why Leo didn’t want to go back to school.
Why he was cold when he saw me with my
coworkers.
When I got in Justin’s car, it had hurt Leo.
It had made him insecure.
I missed the Leo I’d met.
<
He was strong and spoke his mind.
He was poor, but he was proud.
Because of me, Leo was changing.
I kissed him.
I saw the surprise in his eyes.
I couldn’t help smiling.
“I always thought you were too young. You should have a choice. But now, I want you.
“Leo, no matter what happens. I want you.”

I thought about Leo.
<
Life became beautiful.
While Leo and I were together, the main characters were still causing trouble.
Maisie was trying to advance the story.
17
A few days later, I heard that my dad was being
investigated.
This was the last plot point.
My dad would go to jail, Maisie would be the
CEO, and she would marry Justin.
But the story wasn’t the same.
My mom was alive.
I hadn’t killed myself.
<
As for my dad… I didn’t care!
I didn’t care about my dad, but he contacted
- me.
“I’ve arranged a marriage for you. You’re going
to marry the son of the East Asia Group.”
“What?”
“I’m being investigated. East Asia Group will
invest if you marry their son. I’ve agreed.”
The son of the East Asia Group was… special.
I laughed. “Why would I listen to you?”
“I’m your father.”
“Maisie’s your daughter. Ask her.”
<
My dad was surprised that I knew. He paused.
“Who told you?”
“You wanted to keep it secret. But if everyone
knew that your old life had caught up with you,
the media would love it.”
“They might also find out how Maisie’s mother
died.”
“Liv!”
“If you don’t want people to know about the
past, divorce my mom. I won’t agree to anything. Otherwise, your actions with your daughter will be on the front page.”
I hung up.
My heart was beating.
