Chapter 5
He fulfilled his promise.
He spared no expense, and the entire venue was luxurious and
romantic, making everyone present smile with happiness. It
was such a grand ceremony–clearly, he had put a lot of effort.
It was just that she wasn’t the lucky one.
Suddenly, the music stopped.
Roderick’s deep, mellow voice rang out on stage. He sounded so
gentle, each of his words dripping with deep affection.
“Thank you all for coming today. Allow me to share my deepest,
most precious secret with you today.
“The woman who makes me believe in fate finally agrees to
stand beside me as my life partner.”
Amid cheers and envious gazes, he walked down the stage, took
Matilda’s hand, and led her back on stage.
He raised his glass and confessed his love for her while gazing at
her.

“Dear Ms. Turner, this is to your grace, radiance, and our future
together. May I have the honor?”
“Of course.”
Matilda smiled, raised her glass, too, and clinked it with his.
Her every movement dripped with elegance, and the guests
couldn’t help but exclaim and applaud.
“Roddy and Ms. Turner are perfect for each other!”
“They’re meant to be!”
“I heard he went to her parents‘ place to ask for their approval.
They disagreed at first, but he kept pursuing her, and she finally
agreed to be with him.”
Andrea froze completely.
Her heart broke into pieces as she looked at the happy couple on
stage.
She wasn’t some machine and didn’t have a button to make her
stop loving him just like that.
He was her boyfriend for seven years, yet here he was, kissing
another woman right in her face.

Word failed her, and she stood in place, oblivious to those
people behind her urging her.
“Hey, what are you waiting for? Push the cart onto the stage!”
Being shoved hard, she could only push the cart and walk onto
the stage stiffly.
After drinking the wine, Roderick turned around and picked up
the bouquet from the cart.
In the next second, he looked up, only to meet a pair of familiar,
sad eyes.
He was stunned.
Andrea clearly saw the trace of panic flashing across his eyes.
She thought with a sneer, “Of course, he panicked. After all, he
hasn’t got what he wants.
“I’m not stupid, and I wouldn’t believe his reaction like this is
because he has any feelings for me.”
Standing next to Roderick, Matilda said, her voice affectedly
sweet, “What’s wrong, Roderick?”
“Nothing. This is for you, Matilda. The most beautiful roses for
my beloved” Roderick quickly regained his composure and

turned around.
He handed the exquisitely arranged bouquet to her, and they
kissed passionately, totally ignoring Andrea, who was still
standing in place.
Some guests recognized her and said in confusion, “Hey, that’s
Roderick’s stepsister, right? Why’s she still standing there?”
Those who knew about Roderick and Andrea were thrilled as
they spotted how devastated she appeared.
“I’m so glad I came here today!”
In a daze, Andrea walked off the stage, her mind in turmoil.
A few people stopped her from leaving.
“Ms. Turner invited you to stay because you’re Mr. Hodgson’s
sister.””
She shook her head. “I’ve gotta attend to business.”
The man in the lead signaled for the security guards to stand in
front of her, blocking her path.
“We’re just doing our job per Ms. Turner’s request. Please don’t
make things awkward.”
Chapter 5
As she tried to leave, the security guards gripped her arms
firmly.
The commotion had already attracted several guests‘ attention.
Not wanting to be the butt of the joke, she could only find a seat
and sit down.
