“What’s the point of saying this now? We need to find her!”
The two began frantically calling Kathleen’s friends, people at her company, and even the gallery staff. However, the answer was always the same.
They said that Kathleen had been acting strange those past two days, tying up all her loose ends, almost like she was preparing for her final affairs.
“Preparing her final affairs?” Jolene’s voice trembled. “Don’t say such things!”
Over the phone, the gallery manager, Vince William, said, “Mrs. Sullivan, I’m not making this up. Ms. Sullivan came to the gallery the day before yesterday and inventoried all the pieces, even explaining the history of each painting.
“She said… She said she was going somewhere far away.”
Jolene’s phone clattered to the floor.
“Dear? Dear, what’s wrong?” David steadied her.
“Is–is Kathleen…” Jolene’s face was ashen. “She gave everything to Yve… Is she…”
“Don’t jump to conclusions!” David cut in, but his voice was shaking. “Let’s head to the Liddells‘ residence now! She was there last night, maybe…”
