Chapter 9
I bought and renovated a house, and for the past two years, I’ve been traveling, eating well, enjoying my best life.
Finally, the renovation is done.
It should be the day of my housewarming[]
But I didn’t get any celebration.
My parents, still angry about the divorce. They would rather call George their son than acknowledge me as their daughter.
And George? He’s been playing the dutiful son–in–law, visiting them regularly, even though we’re no longer married
Suddenly, there’s a knock on the door. I open it, and the smile on my face freezes
It’s George, with holding a bouquet of roses
“Miss me? It’s been a while, Isabella. I’ve been swamped, mostly because I couldn’t find a good excuse to drop by. But today’s your housewarming, so here I am. Wishing you well.“]
His opening is cringe
And I don’t even let him in.]
“Okay, Blessings received.”
“Won’t you invite me in to sit for a while?“]
“No, I have a friend coming over soon, it wouldn’t be appropriate.”
“What friend? Why would it be inappropriate just because I’m here?”
“If you got something to say, say it.”
I want to remarry you.” The words tumble out of his mouth
I really want to laugh
It’s been almost two years since we separated. In the first year, George constantly changed his companions. By the second year, he started avoiding women altogether, threw himself into work, and doubled down on cozying up to my parents.]
“What’s wrong? Can’t find a suitable maid?”
“Those women only wanted my money, Isabella. You were different. We built everything together. Even if I went broke, you’d have stayed. I can’t live without you!”
Iscoffed, “So what you really want is a maid who loves you and doesn’t want your money. And since you couldn’t find one, you came back to me. Let’s be honest, if you found her, you wouldn’t even be standing here.”
“It’s okay, for you, I don’t care if you be with me for my money, Isabella, I just want to come home and see you cooling for me, washing my clothes and underwear… That’s how I know you love me. Can we just start over?“]]
I really laugh out loud now
“Come on, those women don’t wash your underwear for you? No? Well, maybe ask your mommy, I’m sure she’d be willing.”
George’s jaw clenched tight, “Do you have to be like this? Haven’t I done enough? I’ve taken care of all the culprits that led to our divorce. They ruined our marriage, so I made them pay. I did it all for you! Can’t you give me one more chance?”
“Even your parents! You walked out on them, and I was the one who looked after them all these years
I cut him of
“My boyfriend is here, could you please leave? I don’t want him to misunderstand.”
My boyfriend, Karl, indeed stepped out from the elevator.
And the two men make eye contact]
Karl asks me, “Bahr, who’s this?“)
“My ex–husband.” I introduce him casually
He takes the initiative to shake George’s hand, “Hey. Thanks for divorcing my girl!”
George’s face tarns pale as he asks me, “How old is your boyfriend? Is he even an adult?“||
Karl said. “Tm 19, old man!”
George almost crushes the flowers in his hand, “Well done, Isabella. Do you really think this little boy can give you a future?
“Forget the future, just focus on the present. Some people get hit by a car while walking just fine. Don’t think too far, George. Not everyone gets a fiature.“[
Turns out, my words were an omen. Sorry for that.]
George was indeed hit by a car on his way home that day.[]
He survived, but lost both his legs.
And even without legs, George is still begging me to come back. I know the accident made him more determined to find a maid who loves him and takes care of him.]]
He said. “I’ve lost my legs, I can’t messing with other women anymore. Isabella, come back to me, please?”
“George, do you know why I was so firm about the divorce? Because there was no equality between us, you didn’t respect me.“]
He scuffed
” was the one providing for you, how could we ever be equals?” |||
“hut we’re husband and wife, I wasn’t your pet in a gilded cage. We should be equal partners. If I were just your mistress. I could could trade dignity for comfort, but I’m your wife.”
George sneers mockingly, “If you had a poor husband, you’d have neither dignity nor money! Can’t you just grow up, Isabella?“]
And there it was, even with two missing legs, he still looked down on me
We were never meant to be equal
He never saw me as anything more than someone beneath him.[]
A year later, George remarried.
His wide was a high–achieving, educated woman handpicked by his mu
mom, a perfect wife.||
Even she was major in financial, his mom said to be able to help with George’s business.
The “perfect wife” was indeed impressive. In just half a year, she had transferred all of George’s assets overseas.
Then she disappeared
Leaving behind only an empty shell company and a mountain of debt.]
By the time he realized what had happened, has mom was still too stunned to speak]
They had no idea how the “perfect wife had pulled it off.[]
George’s mom angrily cursed she was a gold–digging trash!||
She retorted, “Of course I was after his money. What else was I supposed to be after? His two missing legs? Or the fact that he’s infertile and can’t even give me a child?”
His mom was completely broken. Her precious son had been so despised!]]
George lost all his money. His mom wheeled him over to come find me, demanding that I return that one billion 1 had been awarded in the divorce.
After that, I never heard from George again.]
As for me? Every night, I fall asleep wrapped around a 6’1” hot model
Life’s been pretty damn good.
Life’s
