Madeleine shrank under Vincent’s icy gaze, which almost froze her.
“Mr. Romero, how dare I test your patience? I’m following the contract. I’ll give birth to the baby and hand it over to you. The rest is my freedom.”

Madeleine was flattered and surprised. She had thought Vincent would demote her for lying. To her surprise, he gave her a promotion.
Kristin was the bitterest one in the office.
Once Madeleine took her seat, Kristin began sarcastically, “Madeleine, you bled a lot that day. Everyone thought you suffered a miscarriage.”
Madeleine saw through her trick and sneered. “A virgin like me? What miscarriage? Rumors spread like wildfire, while truth crawls like a snail.”
Kristin’s smirk twitched. “Just a joke. Congrats on the promotion. I didn’t know you were close to Mr. Romero. You were the star at the banquet that night.”
She was implying Madeleine had an affair with Vincent and slept her way up the corporate ladder.
Madeleine frowned and said solemnly, “That day when I was injured, Mr. Romero was decent enough to step forward in time and save me. Otherwise, my leg would have been broken. He cares for employees like family. When we face difficulties, he willingly offers humanitarian care. Shouldn’t we be moved to tears of gratitude and consider ourselves lucky to have such a good boss?”
