Chapter 20 He’d Lock Her Up
His fingers tightened slightly. Madeleine whimpered in pain as a chill spread from her spine to every limb.
“I had a tiny crush on him back then. After the trip, we never spoke again. I swear every word is true.“?
Vincent’s eyes glinted coldly. Something seemed to come across his mind, and his expression turned icy. ??“So William is the guy you had a one- sided thing for?“?
“Yes…”
Madeleine whispered a single word, feeling peeled layer by layer like an
onion.
Vincent hissed. Her damn honesty somehow enraged him more as if a thorn pierced into his chest.
He released her abruptly, fearing he would crush her jaw if he lost control.
“Anything else hidden from me?”
Madeleine glanced at the lie detector.
In fact, she lied to him once.
Damn it. Did Vincent discover that thing and thus interrogate her with the lie detector?
With her intelligence, she couldn’t defeat the high–tech device.

Madeleine swallowed hard and said in a trembling voice, “I’ll confess. I dropped the draft on purpose at the banquet. It upset me to see Kristin shine at the launch. I lost my head and made a mistake.”
She looked up at him pitifully with tearful eyes. “Please don’t fire me.”
Vincent was taken aback.
He knew this scheming woman wouldn’t let Kristin take the credit.
Yet he didn’t care about this.
“Anything else between you and William?”
Madeleine shook her head. “What else could there be? To him, I’m barely an acquaintance.“?
Was this her one–sided love?
Her tone carried a resentful edge, making him angrier.
The woman in black spoke up, ??“Mr. Vincent, Ms. Faulkner didn’t lie this time. There was an abnormal heartbeat when she answered the last question. She was honest with the rest.”
“Are you sure?”
Vincent took a cold glance at the woman, who was bewildered, and whispered a reply, “According to the lie detector, yes.”
Vincent’s face didn’t soften. Instead, it turned icy. Unspeakable rage simmered in his chest.
Didn’t her schemes to seduce him count as lies?

This damn machine must have malfunctioned.
He ripped the sensors off Madeleine and asked the woman in black to
leave.
Madeleine breathed a sigh of relief. Did she pass?
“Mr. Romero, can I go home?”
Vincent narrowed his eyes, which glinted with cold light. “You’re not to meet William again.”
He sounded like a tyrant. Madeleine was annoyed.
She was not his slave. Why should she obey him?
“I don’t know what you’re worried about. He’s merely an acquaintance, who might have dinner with me occasionally. He might not contact me in the future.”
She paused and stressed, “Besides, our contract says no meddling in each other’s private life. I’ve honored it. I hope you can do that too.”
After she spoke, Madeleine stood up. Seeing the door was not locked, she headed out.
Her principles weren’t negotiable.
Vincent glared at her with anger burning in his eyes. He darted up and grabbed her arm, pressing her against the door.
“Don’t test my patience.”
If she dared to cross the line, he would shut her up in a dark room until she gave birth. Before that, she couldn’t see any sunlight.
