Chapter 12 Slander
Tiffany glanced at Madilyn meaningfully.
Unlike Madilyn, she knew the truth.
Given her fragile heart, Vincent had told her all about it.
She said to Madilyn, “You know how stubborn Vincent is. No one can change his mind.”
With that, she covered her chest. “To think I lost my grandkid! I’m so sad whenever I think about it. I gotta go back to my room and lie down for a bit.”
Then she reached out, and the maid next to her quickly helped her upstairs.
Tiffany was too shrewd to fall for Madilyn’s tricks.
Vincent walked inside, his expression stern and solemn. “It’s in the past now. No one is allowed to bring it up again.”
Madilyn didn’t want to bring it up, but she was so worried that he had kept the baby.
She asked, “Vincent, why are you still keeping Madeleine around? What if she talks to people, and someone else knows about the baby?”
Vincent squinted, his gaze utterly sharp.
“That’s none of your business. You should be glad I haven’t settled the score with you about the performance review.”

Madilyn asked, her voice slightly trembling, “Are you defending Madeleine?”
“I never mix work with personal matters. If you give Madeleine a hard time again, there will be consequences.”
After saying this, he turned upstairs, not sparing her another glance.
Madilyn was utterly uneasy.
Vincent had always been cold to her, but he had never warned her because of another woman.
Something was off. Something was definitely off!
Behind him, she said loudly, “Vincent, you should stay away from Madeleine. She flirts with men all the time. Who knows? Maybe half of the men in the company are her ex–boyfriends. I bet she was already pregnant before the artificial insemination. Perhaps you weren’t the father of her baby at all. You made the right decision to make her abort it, or she would have ruined your life.”
She tarnished Madeleine’s reputation to make Vincent suspicious of Madeleine.
Vincent paused slightly before continuing to walk upstairs.

Madeleine’s pregnancy symptoms had worsened these days, and she wanted to throw up whenever she was hungry.
She had to carry snacks everywhere she went so as not to puke.
The receptionist called her because she had a visitor.

She went out and saw a middle–aged woman she had never met before. The designer clothes the woman wore showed how rich she was.
“Ma’am, what can I do for you?” she asked politely.

The woman sized her up for a while before snorting, “What a cheap slut. With that slutty look of yours, no wonder men fall for you easily.”
Though Madeleine was baffled, her gut told her the woman was here to cause trouble, so she subconsciously took a few steps back. “Ma’am, maybe you mistook me for someone else.”
Just then, the receptionist said, “This is Mrs. Hartman, the wife of Mr. Hartman from Verity Group.”
Bryson Hartman?
The name rang a bell–at the jewelry exhibition last month, Bryson had tried to get fresh with her. After she scolded him harshly, he left in embarrassment.
Did he hold a grudge and send his wife here to settle the score with her?
She said, “Mrs. Hartman, your husband harassed me. You should deal with him, not me. I’m busy, so I’m off now.”
As she turned around to leave, Lucy Hartman rushed forward and grabbed her by the arm. “You bitch! You hit on Bryson and even got pregnant with his baby. Why shouldn’t I deal with you?”
What?
Madeleine was shocked. Was this some kind of joke?
She turned around and said seriously, “I’ve never hit on Mr. Hartman. You know slander is against the law, right?”

Lucy sneered, “Do you think I’d come here without proof?”
Upon seeing the photos Lucy brought, Madeleine realized how serious this was.
Someone had smeared her.
“These photos are photoshopped. That woman isn’t me at all. Someone’s trying to frame me,” she explained.
But Lucy didn’t buy it at all. She glared at Madeleine. “Who? Do tell!”
“You’ll have to ask Mr. Hartman.”
People would do anything for money. Bryson was rich, and of course, there would be plenty of women trying to get into his bed.
Just then, Kristin approached them. “Madeleine, you’ve been retching all the time lately. Are you pregnant?”
