Chapter 4
I immediately called my assistant.
“Miss, someone forged your signature and transferred the money!”
Twenty minutes later, I rushed into Stella’s newly opened studio.
“Marcus!” My voice instantly silenced the entire place. “Who allowed you to touch my trust fund?”
He turned around slowly and said, “Zoe, you have bullied Stella time and again. Consider this a gesture of apology.
He deliberately raised his voice as he continued, “It’ll be our property after we’re married anyway, so don’t be so petty.”
My chest heaved violently, and my vision went dark.
At this moment, a familiar glint flashed on Stella’s neck.
That was the pearl necklace I locked in the bank safe. It was my mother’s favorite jewelry when she was alive!
I pointed at Stella and said, “Take the necklace off!”
Stella’s eyes immediately turned bloodshot, and she hid behind Marcus.
He frowned impatiently. “It’s just an old necklace.”
“I told you to take it off!” I reached out and pulled it off.
During the scuffle, the necklace suddenly snapped, and the pearls scattered all over the floor.

“Bang!”
I raised my hand and slapped Stella hard.
Stella covered her face and screamed. Marcus pushed me away angrily. “Are you crazy?”
I raised my head and looked at him coldly.

Marcus subconsciously took a half step back, gulping a little. “Wait, it’s just a broken necklace. Why do you get so angry…”
I slowly lowered myself and picked up the scattered pearls with trembling fingertips.
Every pearl was covered with dust, just like all my heart and love that he once trampled on again and again.
Back in the car, veins bulged in my hands as I gripped the bag of pearls.
I turned on my phone and saw a trending topic.
“The daughter of a wealthy family being stripped in public”
In the photo, I looked disheveled, and Stella was wearing my coat and leaning against Marcus’s arms. There was also a caption.
“Things that you robbed can’t stay with you forever.”
I turned off my phone.
That was what I would tell her as well–things that you robbed can’t stay with you forever.
The public opinion online was overwhelming. All kinds of unpleasant words stabbed into my heart like knives.

“The eldest daughter of the Carrigan family was such a slut. She was completely subdued by her fiancé!”

“Look at her being all roughed up. She deserves to be treated like that!”
When I called my assistant, my voice was eerily calm.
“Remove those online posts immediately.”
“Also, I want the money back in full. No matter the price, no matter the means. If the bank dares to try to weasel out of this, let them know that a lawyer’s letter will be coming. If anyone tries to get in the way…”
I sneered. “Let them think about the consequences of crossing the Carrigan family.”
Early in the morning of the wedding day, Marcus called.
“Thank you, Zoe.” Marcus’s voice was full of confidence and pride.
“About the necklace that day,” he paused, “you scared Stella to the bone! She’s pregnant! She can’t take all of that!”
I slowly put on my lipstick, and the corners of my lips curled slightly in the mirror. “So you posted my photo online to make things even for her?”
He snorted coldly. “Don’t forget that your father’s mining project still relies on my family’s connections. Who else but me could help your family with this?”
I gently put down my lipstick and tapped my fingertips on the dressing table.
“How about this,” he said as if he was talking to a beggar, “transfer 50 percent of your shares to Stella, and treat it as a gift for the child.”

He chuckled. “After we get married, what’s mine will be yours, too.”
On the other end of the call, Stella called out “Marcus” in a delicate voice. He immediately softened his voice saying, “Be good, don’t move yet, watch your belly.
“As long as you agree to this, I will show up at the wedding on time today.”
I hung up the call and blacklisted the number.

In the banquet hall, when Ryan’s wheelchair slowly rolled in, the audience was in an uproar all of a sudden. He was wearing a silver mask today, but when he saw me, his eyebrows curved into a gentle arc.
Bang! The door was pushed open violently.
Marcus barged in wearing a white suit, with a determined smile on his face. But when his eyes fell on Ryan beside me, his whole face twisted instantly.
“Zoe,” his voice began to tremble. “What is the meaning of this?”
“Ryan!” He shouted suddenly. “What are you doing here?” He wasn’t the only one wanting to ask the question. All the guests present shared their doubts too. After all, Ryan never participated in any social activities.
I took a step forward and stood in front of Ryan’s wheelchair.
Marcus’s face turned pale. “Zoe, today is our wedding day. What do you mean by calling him here?”
Stella protruded her belly, one that didn’t show anything at all. “Ms. Carrigan, even if Marcus has been spending more time with me recently, you don’t have to get a cripple just to make him jealous, right?”

“That’s enough!” Marcus suddenly grabbed my wrist. “From now on, I am your husband. How dare you play such a lousy trick on me?”
I slammed his hand away.
At this moment, the loud voice of the emcee resounded throughout the
venue.
“Dear distinguished guests, welcome to the wedding of Ms. Zoe Carrigan and Mr. Ryan Mitchell.”
