But Wesley still didn’t contact me.%
Two months later, I hired a lawyer and filed for divorce%
The case got pushed back for over half a year. And so we dragged on for more than six months.%
The first hearing didn’t end in a divorce. The second wasnt scheduled until nearly a year later%
By then, we had been separated for a long time.%
Somebody–still didn’t know who sent me a video.%
It showed Wesley and Jessica during our separation, living together like a couple. Days and nights spent side by side, acting like husband and wife.
That video was all I needed.
We divorced–officially and completely.%
Outside the courthouse, Wesley blocked my path.%
He stared at me and demanded, “Where did you get that video?“%
“Emerie,” he sneered, “you really are something. You’d go this far just to get a divorce?“%
I couldn’t believe how righteously angry he was how he looked at me like I had betrayed him.%
What was he angry about, exactly?%
Hadn’t he been living happily with Jessica?%
Hadn’t they been enjoying their perfect domestic life?%
In the video, they were trimming rose branches together, mowing the lawn, walking dogs–living a quiet, harmonious life
I looked him in the eye.
“Wesley, from the way you two were getting along in that video, you looked just fine. But this is the 21st century. Our country has laws. You don’t get to keep both women and call it love. Don’t give me that pathetic, heartbroken act. It’s disgusting.”
His expression cracked.
I didn’t look back, and walked away.
With the divorce certificate in hand, I took Miles and resumed our travels.
For the first time in all those years of marriage, I felt free./
For the rest of my life, the sky’s the limit.
Wesley
We got divorced.
And I didn’t want to let Emerie go.
But she walked away so easily.
That image of her back, so determined and unyielding, pierced right through me./ She pushed and pushed, and I had no choice but to sign the divorce agreement./
I delayed registering it, hoping we could somehow reconcile.
I never thought she would get that video.
Just like that, Emerie succeeded in leaving me.
Back then, after Jessica’s accident, she developed severe mental illness. It took ages to treat.” When she wanted to join the company, I couldn’t refuse.
We owed her. That was what I told myself.
She once told me, “You’re like a brother to me now, I was young and foolish back then “W

So when Emerie got jealous, over and over again, I was annoyed. I thought she was being unreasonable.”
Then, somewhere along the way… she stopped being jealous.
She stopped being close to me.”
It felt like she no longer loved me.
I thought if I used Jessica a bit, let Emerie see, she’d fight for me. Get angry.@
But I assumed she never noticed.”
Until Keira came back with screenshots of Jessica’s private posts.
That was when I realized–Emerie had seen everything.”
She had seen it all and silently endured, day after day, night after night.
And during those countless nights, she stripped me from her heart, piece by piece.
By the time we stood in court, she no longer loved me.”
That’s when I panicked.
Even after Keira passed on her message, I didn’t dare to face her.
Then came the hearing.
She had cut her hair. Gone were the long locks I loved.
She had dyed it purple, and the lawyer even complimented it.”
Emerie smiled brightly. “Really? My son likes this color, so we dyed it together.”
There were no more shadows on her face. Only joy in her eyes.”
She was radiant–without me.}
When I got home, I investigated the source of the video she’d received.
I found the courier. From his description, I suspected Jessica.
I showed him her photo, and he confirmed it was indeed her.
At that moment, I doubted whether Jessica had ever truly been ill.
I flew to the U.S. and found the doctor who had “treated” her.”
After a bit of pressure, he admitted the truth.
Jessica only had mild bipolar disorder–nothing serious. She recovered quickly.
It turned out the person who paid him to lie was my mother.”
When I got back to San Francisco, I quietly removed my mother from the board of directors. I took full control of the Nexus Corporation.
Since she adored Jessica so much, then she could live with her forever.
Jessica came crying to me, begging for forgiveness.”
“I only did it because I loved you so much,” she said.”
What a joke.
Later, I video called my son.
His hair was dyed purple–bright, a little ghostly, but strangely beautiful.”
“Where’s your mom?” I asked.”
He flipped the camera with a grin. “She’s with her handsome boyfriend!“}
The young man on the screen was the same guy from those photos. He was braiding flowers into Emerie’s hair.
The sight stung so badly, I had to end the call.
My stomach began to ache.
I drove myself to the hospital, and got the diagnosis. It was late stage stomach cancer.
I called in my lawyer, sorted out all my assets, and drafted a will.”
I left everything to Emerie and Miles.
On May 9, 2024, I died.
Emerie returned with our son to attend my funeral.”
Only in death did I discover–I was just a character in a romance novel.!!
The author wrote that I was meant to live for Emerie
Unly in death aia i discover–i was just a character in a romance novel.
The author wrote that I was meant to live for Emerie.
And betraying her… meant death..
This was my fate, and I accepted it.
But still… I couldn’t let go.
Because I loved her–and no one would ever know.
