Chapter 30
“Emerie? What are you doing here?” she asked in surprise.
Immediately, the chatter and laughter from inside the apartment fell silent. I looked into the living room and saw my son, sitting on the sofa playing with his toys while Wesley’s mother sat beside him.”
In an instant, rage and disbelief surged through me.
I stared at my son. “Miles, when did you and Grandma come back?”
He looked at me as if I were a stranger. He didn’t say a word.”
Swallowing my emotions, I walked over and reached out to hold him. But before I could touch him, he bolted straight to Jessica, calling out in fear.
“Mommy! Who is this lady?“N
I turned to look at the old woman–Wesley’s mother. She seemed completely unfazed. Then I glanced at Jessica, who looked guilty but still scooped the child up in her arms, softly whispering, “It’s okay, it’s okay, don’t be scared.”
My heart shattered at that moment.
I no longer looked at the child. Instead, I turned to Jessica.
“Where’s Wesley?“N
“He’s asleep,” she replied.
“I saw your social media post. I know he’s sleeping. Which room?“}

Jessica pressed her lips together, then pointed to one of the doors.
I walked straight to it, stepped in, turned on the light, and locked the door behind me.”
Wesley was indeed asleep. On the nightstand sat a glass of water and a photo frame–Jessica, holding the child, with Wesley beside them. A picture–perfect “family of three.“W
I looked at the untouched pillow beside him. At that moment, I wanted nothing more than to smother the man in front of me. But no–it wasn’t worth ruining my life over someone like him.”
I raised my hand and slapped him across the face four times before he finally woke up.”
Stunned, he stared at me. “Emerie, are you crazy?”
I clawed at his face, leaving red marks behind. Tiny beads of blood began to appear.”
“You’re asking me if I’m crazy?” I spat, grabbing the photo frame and smashing it against the nightstand. Glass shattered. I pulled out the photo and tore it to pieces.
Outside, I heard the child’s voice.”
“Daddy! Daddy! Open the door!“}
Only then did Wesley begin to process what was happening. He sat up slowly.
“Emerie, I can explain. Mom just got back yesterday. I was going to tell you during the family dinner tomorrow night.”
His words made my eyes sting. Tears welled up uncontrollably and rolled down like pearls from a broken string.
“Why did Miles call Jessica mom?”
“I carried him for ten months. Why is he calling someone else Mom? Is this how you claim to love me, Wesley?“} He clenched his jaw, his expression stiff.”
“I’ll explain everything tomorrow night at the old house,” he said at last. “I promise.”
“I’ll be waiting,” I said coldly.”
When I opened the door and stepped out, Miles stood at the threshold. He clung to Wesley nervously and looked at me with guarded eyes.M
The injustice, the pain–it burned in my chest.
I wiped the tears from my face and crouched down, forcing a smile.
“Miles, I’m your real mom. You grew in my belly. The doctor took you out of me. Mommy still has the scar to prove it.” He looked at me, confused.”
I spoke gently. “If you don’t believe me, ask Daddy. Isn’t it true that I’m your mom?“# The boy turned to Wesley. Before he could answer, his mother’s voice cut in sharply.
“Wesley don’t forget what you promised me.”
发
“Wesley, don’t forget what you promised me.“N
Wesley fell silent.N
The old woman turned to the child and coaxed him sweetly, “Come to Grandma.”
She had raised him all these years–of course, he was closest to her. At her call, he went to her side without hesitation.
I stood, smiling coldly, and looked Jessica in the eye.
“No need to be in such a rush. Wesley and I are in the middle of a divorce. I already signed the papers, but he tore them to shreds. That’s why I printed ten more copies and brought them with me.”
“If I hadn’t seen his mother and my son here tonight, I might’ve asked you to help push the divorce along.“”
“What a shame.“N
“I look forward to watching your reputation rot.”
With that, I shoved the documents back into my bag and walked out of Jessica’s house.
