Daniel flinched slightly.
Okay…yeah. He really had overthought it just now.
This is on me. I’m gross. It’s completely out of line.
He’d actually assumed Alice might’ve had some past thing with the hospital director. What was he thinking?
“Mrs. Nolan, I-”
“Go leave your contact info with Dr. Murphy,” Alice said casually, already pushing Eric’s wheelchair down the hall.
Daniel was rendered speechless.
Technically, he was an assistant–but his usual scope of work was pretty limited. If anyone was better at handling these situations, it was Stanley.
Still, he nervously exchanged contact details with Jack.
Just as he was about to leave, Jack suddenly grabbed his arm.
“Is it true? Mr. Eric only woke up because he got married?”
Daniel gave him a long look. “You do realize how inappropriate that question is, right?”
Jack let out an awkward laugh. “I–I was just curious, that’s all.”

Daniel wasn’t an idiot. He could see it plain as day–Jack was curious about Alice’s medical skills.
Judging by how she’d left him behind to exchange info, she clearly planned to maybe cooperate with him in the future.
So Daniel put on a little show of reluctance, then slowly replied, “Mr. Eric go quickly because Professor Hoffman confirmed he wasn’t going to wake up few days left to live.”

“You didn’t seriously think our Mr. Eric uses a wheelchair because he’s paralyzed, did you?”
Murphy blinked. “He’s… not?”
Daniel rolled his eyes. “He just woke up recently. His body’s still weak. He needs rest.”
Jack was shocked beyond words.
The look on his face was priceless, and Daniel couldn’t help feeling pretty damn smug.
“You heard right, Dr. Murphy. In a few days, Mr. Eric will be walking just fine.”
Jack immediately tried to rush after them.
With a miracle healer like that–what the hell was I hesitating for?!
If Alice told him to scream her name from the rooftop of the hospital, he’d probably do it without blinking.
But before he made it more than a few steps, Daniel yanked him back.
“Sorry. Mrs. Nolan’s giving Mr. Eric a needle therapy tonight. If you want to see her again, make an appointment.”
He even waved his phone at him, just to rub it in.
Jack didn’t know what to say to that.
Alice wheeled Eric out of the hospital building.
She’d spent the day treating Anthony’s condition, and the high–precision procedures had drained her.
Under the streetlamp, her eyes drooped like a doll drifting into sleep.
“I don’t usually use my phone much,” Eric said suddenly.
They were both in the car now. Alice had nearly dozed off when his voice startled her.
She blinked slowly, eyes foggy and soft–like a lost little fawn in the woods.

Alice blinked again, slowly waking up,
“Are you explaining yourself to me)
Eric quickly turned his heated gaze away, embarrassed
A low grunt slipped from his throat. “Mm
Alice yawned, already nodding off again.
“It’s not that big a deal. Let it go.”
Eric was at a loss for words.
Not that big of a deal! She literally walked out on him
If it had been a big deal, would she have filed for divorce!
Maybe it was just the word “divorce crossing his mind, but the corners of his reddened eyes filled with a sharp, dangerous glint

He didn’t get to finish. Her head suddenly dropped onto his shoulder.
The faint scent of orchids washed over him in a wave.
Alice had clearly passed out from exhaustion. Her delicate face rested gently against his shoulder, her soft breaths warming the side of his neck.
It was warm, steady, and comforting.
It made his whole body feel heavy and relaxed.
Daniel returned from dealing with Jack and opened the car door–only to free at the sight before him. The married couple was fast asleep, leaning into each other like a painting.
He stood there for a long moment, stunned.

But now? Daniel’s shock quickly turned into admiration.
Mrs. Nolan is incredible.
At this rate, Mr. Eric might make a full recovery.
It was midnight.
Alice woke up.
She blinked at the ceiling, alert for a brief moment.
But the tension faded almost instantly.
She turned her head slightly and looked toward the smaller bed.
Tonight, she’d taken the main bed. Eric had been sleeping on the side cot
She sat up with a quiet sigh.
In the past, the only person she ever truly let her guard down around was her mentor.
But earlier on the ride home–she’d fallen asleep right next to Eric.
She hadn’t even noticed when he carried her upstairs.
She rubbed her eyes.
The rest had helped; she felt refreshed, and her mind was sharp.
She got out of bed and nudged Eric.
“Get up. Time for needle therapy.”
Eric, who had worn himself out carrying her to bed, couldn’t find any words to answer her.
The next morning, Henry, the butler from the old mansion, arrived at the villa.
Alice had just woken up when she heard the news.
