She close her mouth, because she also get
cuffed.
The police cleared voice, “You two have been suspect on the crime, now we should take you
to the police office according to the law.” Chapter 2
Mark was dragged away, kicking and
screaming. As they pulled him out of the room, he started fighting back. “You’ve got the wrong guy! I’m not the bad guy! I didn’t assault
Brittany! I was with Ashley! She’s my alibi!”
I played my part, nodding. “Yeah, he’s telling the truth.”
But Brittany was even more shocked than Mark. Since she couldn’t get out of bed, she was handcuffed to the frame. She struggled to sit
- up. “I’m the victim! The victim! Why are you arresting me? I’m going to sue you! You better let me go right now, or I’ll expose you!”
The female cop just stared at her, deadpan.
“You watch too much TV.”
“We’ve done our homework. We found out Mark
bought a bunch of hidden cameras online and installed them in Ashley’s apartment. Based on the footage and the camera angles, we’re pretty sure Ashley didn’t know about them.”
“We watched the security footage from the night of the attack. Ashley didn’t do anything suspicious. As for what happened to you…”
Before she could finish, Mark burst out, “Ashley sleeps around! So what if I wanted to keep an eye on her? Is that against the law? Besides, we’re talking about what happened to Brittany! The video proves I wasn’t the one who hurt her!”
The cop nodded. “We know you weren’t the one who physically assaulted her. That was some drunk, and we’ve already picked him up.”
“He told us you paid him five hundred bucks to go to Ashley’s apartment and assault her. So yeah, you’re going down. Don’t bother fighting it. We’re not the kind of cops you see on TV. We don’t arrest people without evidence.”
Mark was speechless. His legs gave out, and he just crumpled to the floor.
Brittany’s eyes darted around the room. “But…
even if Mark wanted to have Ashley assaulted
and I was the one who got hurt, why are you
arresting me? I’m the victim here!”
I chimed in. “Yeah, officer, you must have made
a mistake. Mark’s guilty, fine. But Brittany’s
innocent. She’s been through so much. How
could she do this to herself?”
The cop sighed, like she was talking to a child. “You’re too naive. Your ‘best friend‘ and your boyfriend have been screwing around behind
your back. They even had a kid together, but the doctor said she’s not pregant anymore,
after the asssult.‘
“What?” I staggered back, acting completely
stunned. I turned to Mark, slapping him back
and forth. “How could you do this to me? Why
would you do this?”
