Chapter144
I pushed off the desk and started pacing. “They must have been
planning this the moment they realized I wouldn’t bow to
them.”
“Yeah,” he said. “They’re patient, but they’re also confident.
They think they’ve got this locked down.”
“How many alphas are on their side?” I needed to know the size
of the traitors to make a plan. My guess was that them had
already been turned by Alpha Xavier. But even if that was
really the case, I was not afraid of him.
He hesitated before answering. “Enough to make this a real
problem.”
A sharp breath left my lungs. “Then we have to move first. Call
in the high–ranking officials of the pack. If they think I’m going
down easy, they’re in for a rude awakening.”
Matthew straightened, a shadow of a smirk crossing his face.
“We’ll show them what happens when they pick the wrong
fight. And when this is done with, maybe you and I can start
fresh, brother!””
As he left, I sat back down, running a hand over my face. The
council had tried to use my biggest weakness–Matthew–against
- me. They thought because of what happened between me and
his father, he would definitely stand on the opposite side.
But they underestimated something.
Blood was thicker than politics. We had both lost so much
along the way. Both him and I cherished this little thing that we
had left.
And speaking of the family that we had left.As much as I
needed to focus on the storm brewing outside, there was
another war waiting for me inside these walls.
I needed to find Violet.
The moment I stepped into the kitchen, I felt her presence
before I saw her. Her scent lingered in the air, but something
about it was. off.
She was sitting at the counter, alone. The room, normally
buzzing with voices, was eerily quiet.
“Where is everyone?” I asked.
She didn’t lift her head. “I asked Olivia to send them away. I

wanted some time alone.”
I moved closer, placing my hands on the counter. I needed to know her answer. Although my whole being was dreading to
hear it.
“And you? Have you made a decision? Are you staying, or are
you leaving?“.
Violet’s POV
I shuddered when he tossed me the question. Honestly I wasn’t
ready to answer. But I also couldn’t run away from it forever.
“Leaving would be the right thing to do, for Mia’s sake, for this
babe’s sake!”‘ his face darkened and it looked as though his heart
was shattered into pieces. I quickly added to that, “But you are
my everything. My life and my other half. How can I just leave
you behind?”
His eyes lit up again. He quickly held my hand, squeezing it, “So
the answer is?”
“I’ll stay!” I told him, “We’ll work it through together as we
should have. I’m not running away from you like I did 7 years
ago.”
Chapter144
If I hadn’t left the pack after my parent stole him from me. If I
had ever fought for our relationship back then, maybe we
would have been together a long time ago. I regrated my
decision back then constantly. So now I wasn’t going to make
another mistake.
He let out a long breath of relief and pulled me into his arm.
“Thank you babe.”
I held him tightly. But I could sense that there was something
else on his mind as well, “What’s bothering you? Tell me.”
He sighed and sat next to me, “You are right about one thing:
problems just won’t stop coming at us.”
“How bad is it?” I asked, the weight of everything already
pressing down on me.
Asher let out a slow, measured breath. “Pretty damn bad. We’re
not just looking at another political dispute. This is war, and not
the kind where a few punches get thrown before it settles. If we
go down this road, there’s no turning back.”
I swallowed hard. “Is there any way we can stop it? We already
have enough on our plate with the Celestine flower chaos. The
last thing we need is to be knee–deep in a full–blown battle.”
Chapter144
He rubbed his temples. “Stopping it? Not likely. Preparing for it? That’s the only choice we have. The council used our absence to manipulate the packs. Now, I don’t even know who’s on our
side anymore!”
I clenched my fists, feeling the frustration boil inside me. “The packs are supposed to be loyal to the Royal Family. That’s been the way of things for centuries. Why would they turn now?”
Asher’s expression darkened. “Because loyalty isn’t as strong as fear, and the council made sure to spread plenty of it while we
were gone. Now, some alphas are convinced you’re too
dangerous, that your decisions put us all at risk.”
