Chapter71
Violet’s POV
The moment Isaac grabbed Mia, everything inside me
shattered. My mind screamed for Asher, my desperation
pouring through our mind link.
“Asher! He has Mia! He–he’s hurting her!” I cried out, my voice
trembling with panic.
“WHO? Violet, what’s happening?” Asher’s voice came through,
frantic. “Where are you? Answer me!”
“No–no, she’s not okay! It’s Isaac. OMG it’s Isaac!!!” I choked out,
my vision blurring with tears as I watched Mia squirm in Isaac’s
grip. “How did he get through our border? Asher please hurry!”
Mia’s cries cut through the air, her small voice filled with fear
and pain. “Mama! It hurts!”
“Mia!” I screamed, my legs trembling. I reached out, but Isaac
tightened his hold on her, pulling her back. “Not a step closer.
Or I will snap her little neck like a twig.”

“Isaac, stop! Just. Just tell me what you want,” I begged. I was
willing to throw my dignity at his feet now just to stop him
from hurting my daughter.
Isaac looked at me, his face twisted in anger and something else
I couldn’t quite place. “Anything I want?” he sneered. “But this is
exactly what I want. This way Asher will understand when he
loses something precious.”
“Take me,” I choked, my voice breaking. “Please, Isaac, take me
instead! She’s just a child. She hasn’t done anything to you. Let
her go.”
“No. Taking this little girl here can make both of you hurt.
That’s two birds with one stone,” Isaac grinned, his tone icy.
“Enjoy the cold sense of despair while I have your daughter.
Because that’s how I always have felt for the past 20 years.”
Panic and horror seized my heart. I didn’t think I could stand
anymore. Right at this moment, I heard Asher’s breathless voice
through mindlink:
“I’m almost there, Violet. Hold on. Don’t let him leave with her!”
“You won’t be able to get away!” I cried, locking eyes with Isaac.
“This place is heavily secured. So before it’s too late for you,

just.put Mia down and we can talk.”
His lips twisted into a nasty smile, “Oh yeah? Well, try me.”
But just as I heard the faint sound of approaching footsteps,
Isaac’s eyes glinted with something sinister.
And then, he vanished–taking Mia with him.
“NOOOO!” I screamed, falling to my knees.
The air where they had been was empty, cold. I clawed at the
space, as if I could pull them back through sheer will. My heart
felt like it was being ripped apart, the pain overwhelming.
Asher arrived seconds later. His face a mix of worry and anger
as he pulled me into his arms, “Violet! Where’s Mia?”
“He–he took her,” I sobbed, collapsing into his arms. “He just
disappeared, Asher! I couldn’t stop him.I don’t understand.How
the fuck did he do that?!”
Asher held me tightly, his voice steady despite the storm
brewing in his eyes. “We’ll find her, Violet. I swear to you, we’ll
bring her back.”
But I couldn’t shake the image of Isaac’s fury, the way he’d

looked at me with such venom. “He’s going to hurt her, Asher. I
know he will. He said he’d make you regret everything. What if
he–what if-”
“Stop babe,” Asher said firmly, pulling back to look me in the
eyes. “Don’t go there. Don’t let fear destroy you. Isaac wants our
suffering and fear to last as long as possible, so he won’t hurt
Mia right away. We’ll get her back in time.”
I wanted to believe him. I clung to his words like a lifeline, but
the fear was relentless. And then there was the way Isaac had
vanished. He’d disappeared into thin air, something I’d only
ever heard about in stories.
“Asher,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “That was magic. He
used fucking magic! I don’t understand.Where did he learn
that? Do you know about that?”
“Not until today, Asher said, his expression grim. “Isaac has a
couple of cards up his sleeves. Now go back and have some rest.
Let me go find them.”
I wished I could share his confidence, but the idea of magic–of
something so unpredictable and powerful–left me shaken.
Until now, magic had always felt like something distant,

something that didn’t touch our lives. But now, it was here, and
it had taken Mia.
I felt helpless because I didn’t know how to better protect my
mate and my daughter.
***
Hours passed, and Asher was still out with the soldiers
searching for sign of Isaac and Mia. He left me behind at the
hospital, where Philip and Olivia stayed by my side, trying to
comfort me.
“He’s got the best men. They will find her,” Olivia said softly, her
hand resting on my arm. “King Asher is the strongest wolf I
know. You can trust him.”
