Chapter 2
I grabbed all my IDs and checked into a nearby hotel.
I planned to head straight to the airport the next morning.
But before the sun even came up, my hotel room door was kicked open. It was Filbert.
His face twisted in rage, like a demon. He stormed in, grabbed a fistful of my hair, and yanked me straight off the bed.
“Felicia, how can you be so vicious?! Nancy only did all this because she loves me! What did she ever do wrong?”
The pain in my scalp made me gasp through clenched teeth.
Tears welled up in my eyes as I looked at him.
“What exactly did I do?”
He threw his phone hard against my body.
“You recorded that video of Nancy and leaked it online. You’re the one who spread the rumors, calling her a homewrecker, trying to ruin her completely!
“Do you even realize–she almost jumped off a building because of this!”
I picked up the phone and glanced at the news articles. And I instantly knew–this was another one of Nancy’s twisted tricks.
I let out a cold laugh.

“I wasn’t the one who posted that video. And the internet isn’t wrong- what, is she not a homewrecker?”
Filbert let out a furious laugh, then dragged me out by my hair.
He didn’t stop until we reached the rooftop of the hotel.
Only then did he finally let go. He crouched down, gripped my chin hard, and hissed.
“Felicia, start a livestream right now. Say that you’re the one who came between me and Nancy. Beg and apologize to her. If you do that, I’ll let this go.“/
Tears streamed down my face from the pain, but I refused to give in.
Filbert’s smile turned cold. “Fine. Great. Wonderful.” The next thing I knew, his bodyguards had tied my wrists. Then I was dangling from a rope—suspended over the edge of the high–rise rooftop, dozens of meters in the air.
I looked down once and immediately felt dizzy.
A wave of childhood trauma surged back–the memory of nearly being thrown off a cliff by human traffickers. All color drained from my face.
My voice trembled as I choked out.
“Filbert, I didn’t post that video. Please… pull me back up.”
But his voice above me was icy and flat.
“If not you, then who? I gave you a chance, Felicia. You’re the one who wasted it.”
Then he turned to the guards and said.
Chapter 1
“Take some nice photos of her like this and send them to Nancy. When she calms down, we’ll pull her back up.”
I didn’t know how long I was left dangling there.
All I could feel was my heart pounding and my stomach churning in
waves.
Eventually, I started struggling to breathe. Just before losing
consciousness, I looked up. Filbert was gently kissing a photo of Nancy on his phone.
When I came to, I was lying on a cold cement floor.
The solid feel of the ground beneath me brought a rare moment of relief.
I thought maybe–finally–his abuse was over. But he stormed in again, angrier than before.
Before I could say a word, he kicked me hard in the chest. Blood sprayed from my mouth.
Still not satisfied, he grabbed my collar and slapped me twice across the face.
“Felicia! So you’re the one who called my parents back then and told them I’d died in the earthquake?!
“They got in that car crash because of you! They died because of you!
“My parents treated you like their own daughter. How could you do this to them?! You’re a monster!”
He didn’t even give me a chance to explain. He dragged me out to the car.
The ride was a blur of speeding and vomiting–I couldn’t even stay upright.

He brought me to his parents‘ grave,
I was shoved down in front of the headstone, the bodyguard pressing my head down again and again.

They made me bow until my forehead was split open and bleeding.
Blood streamed down my face. I must’ve looked like something out of a nightmare.
But Filbert didn’t even blink. His voice was cold and unfeeling.
“I’m already being merciful by not making you die for what you did.
“You’ll stay here for three days and three nights.”
Before he could finish, I laughed softly.
“Filbert, you believe every word Nancy says like it’s gospel. You’re the dumbest man alive. Honestly, I’m just glad I never married you.”
He froze for a second, then slapped me again.
“You still dare to drag Nancy into this?!”
My vision blurred. The world tilted and spun.
“Felicia, this is the man you loved with all your heart for years.” That thought suddenly crossed my mind. How ridiculous.
With the last of my strength, I looked up at him. My voice was eerily calm.
“Filbert, I didn’t do any of the things you said. Even if you beat me to death, it still wasn’t me.”
