Chapter 20
“Let her come, whatever. But if she shows up again, I’m telling
both our families. If I’m miserable, no one’s getting peace. Let’s
see how they like that.”
Edward held back his frustration and tried to explain.
“Camilla, there’s nothing going on with Aurora. You’re
overreacting. I shouldn’t have gone out last night, but you went
to the pub and had fun. I didn’t say anything. So we’re even. Let’s
just drop it.”
Anger burned in her chest, and she took a second to get her
words straight.
Anger burned in her chest. She paused, trying to put it into
words. “Even? You two have disgusted me more times than I
can count. And now you’re mad because I watched some guys dance at the pub? I only went because you pushed me to my limit. I needed something nice to look at. I needed to breathe. Try understanding that and accept it.”
With that, she turned and walked off.
Back in the master bedroom, she took her time unpacking her

purchases and putting them away.
Just then, her phone buzzed with a call from Kieran. She let it
ring, figuring it wouldn’t be anything good.
Then Aurora called.
Curious, Camilla answered it and hit record.
Aurora’s voice came through. “Ms. Lockhart, I’m sorry. I
shouldn’t have asked Edward to come over last night. That’s
what started the fight.
“I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and I get it now. I’ll keep my
distance. Whatever happens, I’ll handle it myself. I won’t bother
him again. It’s all my fault, and I’m so sorry. Please don’t be mad
at him.
“I told him to go home, but he stayed because he was worried
about Nico. If I’d known this would make you so angry, I swear
I’d have made him leave.”
Aurora kept talking, her tone all fake and pitiful. Camilla had
had enough.
“If that’s all you called to say, I’ve got it. I’ll let the Paxton family
know you won’t be bothering Edward anymore. But if you
show up again, that’s breaking the deal. And things will get
Chapter 20
ugly!”
Aurora let out a cry and said, “No, that’s not what I meant.
You’re taking it the wrong way. Just let me explain.”
“Oh? Then what did you mean? You’re trying to say Edward
thinks your son matters more than me? You’re calling to show
off or something?” Camilla asked deliberately.
There was a long silence. Camilla waited for Aurora to fire back.
Finally, she replied, “I didn’t mean it like that. This is all my fault.
I’m really sorry. Just don’t push him, okay? He’s like family to us.
I don’t want him to get hurt.”
It was a subtle dig, and Camilla caught it right away.
“Here we go again, Classic Aurora,” she thought.
Then Aurora continued, “You came from money. You don’t get
what life’s like for people like me. I’m a single mom. All I want is
a bit of support. You don’t have to treat us like this. If you hate
us, we’ll stay out of your way”
“Uh–huh,” Camilla said flatly.
“The truth stings, but it helps,” Aurora went on. “Camilla, you’ve
got everything, and you don’t appreciate it. Keep this up, and
Chapter 20
you’ll lose Edward.”
“Uh–huh.” Camilla’s tone remained flat.
“You’re going too far, Camilla.”
With that, Aurora hung up.
Later, Camilla was lying in bed, scrolling through her phone
when she heard a knock.
She slipped on her slippers and shuffled out. Edward was at the
door, with Stuart and a security guard holding him up.
