Chapter 19
The chessboard filled up fast- each move more tense than the
last.
Camilla’s white pieces cut through sharp and clean. Bold moves,
no hesitation. William’s side started slipping.
He picked up a piece and hesitated.
“Cami, I know today was rough. We have already punished
Edward. We yelled at him, even smacked him. We did what we
could. I get that you’re mad. But you just got married. Hitting
the pub and messing around with those guys is too much.”
“Of course, they knew about the pub,” she thought, unfazed.
She took a sip of tea, calm as ever, a faint smile on her lips.
“William, come on. You know what really happened. And you
know Edward started all this. He keeps pushing me. I went to
the pub to breathe. That’s reasonable. If I just put up with it, I’ll
be depressed.”
William coughed, looking awkward. His piece dropped to the
wrong spot.
Chapter 19
Without missing a beat, Camilla placed her piece–checkmate.
“One bad move, and game over. As for my marriage, there’s
nothing left to fix. I’m done with him,” she said.
William let out a long breath and started picking up the pieces.
“I know he hurt you. I gave him hell. He swore it wouldn’t
happen again,” he said earnestly.
Camilla sorted the pieces and wiped her hands, a scornful smile
on her face.
“His promises mean nothing. He’s said the same before, and then
here we are. Again. It’s all bullshit. So no, I don’t believe him.””
The room went quiet. The air felt heavy.

Then Jadeana spoke up. “Camilla, you’re Edward’s wife. He
didn’t cheat, hit you, or pay for sex. He just got carried away.
You’re overreacting. What really embarrassed this family was
you messing around with those guys at the pub.”
Jadeana, as a woman, was supposed to support Camilla. But
instead, she blamed her. It made Camilla sick.
Camilla shot back, “Jadeana, seriously? Remember when your
husband’s secretary crashed her car? He drove her to the

hospital and you completely lost it. And now you want me to
stay quiet about Edward and Aurora?”
The look in her eyes was fierce, and it shut Jadeana up. William
just watched in silence, his cloudy eyes narrowing.
Then Camilla stood up, her arms full of shopping bags, head
held high.
“William, Jadea, I’m exhausted. I’m going upstairs. If you won’t
clean up this mess, I will handle it my way.‘
And with that, she walked upstairs, graceful and proud,
without looking back.
Jadeana cursed under her breath. Camilla heard it, turned her
head, and shot her a sharp look. Jadeana shut right up.
Upstairs, the guest room door was slightly open. Camilla glanced
over and saw Edward lying on the bed. Aurora and Nicholas
weren’t with him.
Edward noticed her and called out, “Camilla, come in. We need
to talk.”
She dropped her things outside the master bedroom and walked
over unhappily.
Chapter 19
Seated in the leather chair, she crossed her arms and legs,
staring at him.
Her gaze made him uneasy. Edward shifted, propped up on one
elbow, trying to meet her eyes.
“Aurora and Nicholas stopped by earlier. I know you’re pissed. I
already told them not to come again. Can you just let it go? Don’t
be jealous,” Edward said.
“He thinks the world revolves around him. The ego on him,” she
thought.
Then she snapped, “You think I’m jealous? Get over yourself.
And I’m just supposed to let it go because you said so?”
Her patience was already worn thin from everything earlier.
His words pushed her over the edge.
