Chapter 12
The more Camilla listened, the clearer it became–she was
dealing with two phonies.
She rolled her eyes, gathered her thoughts, and said bluntly, “Aurora, you and I are both adults, so spare me your act. I’ll be straightforward with you–I know all about your feelings for
Edward. I chose not to say anything because I simply didn’t care,
but I do care about my dignity.”
Being seen through, Aurora seemed at a loss.
Her expression changed a few times in embarrassment. After
quite a while, she calmed down and deliberately looked
aggrieved.
She said, “You got me wrong, Ms. Lockhart. I just wanted to go
up there and check on Edward with Nico. I promise it’ll be quick.
We’ll leave after we see him.”
Camilla said, “Go ahead. Who’s stopping you? But before you do,
think about it. Can you really handle the consequences?”
No sane person would enter at this point. However, worried
that she might lose her lifelong provider, Aurora entered the

villa anyway.
Standing aside, Stuart didn’t know what to do.
He walked toward Camilla and asked, “Mrs. Paxton, you were upset last night because of them. Why did you let them up?”
Camilla said coldly, “Call the Paxton family and tell them about
this.”
With that, she entered the villa and went upstairs.
Behind her, Stuart muttered, “You could have stopped them, but you didn’t. And now, you’re making a big deal out of it? Don’t
you have better things to do?”
Though he said this in a small voice, Camilla heard him anyway.
She turned around and glared at him, warning, “Stuart, you
work for me. Just do as I say. If you aren’t happy about the job,
feel free to leave.”
Her voice was dripping with coldness.
A cold sweat broke out on Stuart’s back instantly as he said
hastily, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it. I’ll go tell them right away.”
Camilla nodded at his reply and walked inside. As the door to
the guest room was slightly ajar, she overheard Aurora’s

conversation with Edward.
“Edward, I’m so sorry. It’s all my bad. I shouldn’t have called you
over last night. I … just didn’t think Ms. Lockhart would be this
upset. After all, she had always been cool about it.”
“Aurora, don’t beat yourself up. It’s fine. Camilla will calm down
in a few days. My family has already lectured me, and I’ll make
it up to her properly later. I’m sure she’ll forgive me,” Edward
said.
Camilla sneered. Instead of going back to the bedroom, she stood
by the railing, interested in knowing whether they could be
more shameless.
Aurora said, “Even if she forgives you, it doesn’t change the fact
that you fought because of me. I shouldn’t have been so selfish,
only thinking about Nico. I’ll apologize to her properly later so
that she can let this slide. She can beat me or scold me however
she wants, and I won’t say a thing. It’s what I deserve.”
“Don’t say that, Aurora. It’s all in the past now. I’ll explain it to
her. She’s always been understanding, and I’m sure she’ll be OK
with it. Now, go back with Nico. He needs rest.”
“I insist on apologizing to her. No matter what, it’s all my fault,
and I won’t feel at ease until she forgives you.”

Then Nicholas said timidly, “Ms. Lockhart is very angry.
“She just scolded Mommy and me. We have to apologize to her.”
Camilla almost wanted to applaud those two. She thought, “Sure
enough, Nicholas is Aurora’s son. At such a young age, he
already masters acting.”
