Chapter 9
Amanda couldn’t help but say, “But it seems she’s set to get a
divorce. Didn’t you hear her? She’d rather become a widow.
Let’s just cut Edward some slack, OK? Now that she’s
determined to leave him, they might as well get a divorce.”
With that, she dragged Jadeana to the sofa in a huff.
Jadeana chimed in, “Grandpa, you’re being too lenient with the
Lockhart family about this. We all know Edward–he isn’t a
black sheep. He just made a minor misstep tonight, and it’s
Camilla who’s blowing it out of proportion. If we humor her this
time, who knows? She might pull some other stunts in the
future!”
William threw his cane at her, demanding her to shut up.
“You’re so stupid! Edward left her on their wedding night for
another woman. If word gets out, who do you think others will
side with? Camilla threw caution to the wind and said bluntly
that she wanted a divorce in the group chat tonight. What if she
posts on Twitter tomorrow? Do you really think anyone will
take our side after they learn what Edward did?”
For a rich family like theirs, those who feared nothing were the

ones they were terrified the most. In their eyes, Camilla was
indeed a ticking time bomb.
“Edward must be beaten hard. It’s the only way our reputation
remains intact if this gets out. Tell the Lockhart family
tomorrow that we’re prepared to collaborate with them more
deeply to help them suppress their second lineage. The bottom
line is we must stop Camilla from getting a divorce at all costs.”
As his commanding voice sounded, the other members of the
Paxton family were deep in thought. After they figured it out,
they had to admit his decision was what was best for the family
and accept the harsh truth.
Edward’s face twisted in pain. He said through tears, “Go on
then. For the benefit of both families, hit me. After you’re done,
drag me to the master bedroom, and I’ll continue to apologize to
Camilla. She might soften, and then we can manipulate her.”
Little did they know that after going upstairs, Camilla didn’t go
back to the bedroom at once. Instead, she stood by the railing,
listening to their conversation.
She curled her lip and rolled her eyes, realizing William wanted
to corner her so that she couldn’t propose a divorce again. But
she wouldn’t be a sitting duck. Pondering, she went back to the
bedroom and locked the door so that no one could bother her.

Downstairs, William walked toward Edward slowly, crouched
down while leaning on his cane, and cupped Edward’s face.
“Edward, Camilla is your wife. It’s your duty to fix this with her.
I won’t let anyone sabotage our family’s interests. As for those
two in the hospital–I don’t care what you do. Just stay away
from them from now on. Otherwise, I’ll take Pierson home to
replace you.”
As Edward slumped against the table leg, the others pulled a
long face. Pierson Paxton was the son of Kenny Paxton,
William’s illegitimate child. If Pierson was taken back, it’d be
both the biggest challenge and the humiliation for them, the
main lineage.
Edward said, “Grandpa, I promise this won’t happen again. From
now on, I’ll keep my distance from Aurora and Nico. I won’t upset Camilla again. I know our marriage is the foundation of
our alliance with the Lockhart family.”
Jeffrey arrived late at night, and Jadeana had someone lift
Edward to the second floor, only to find Camilla had locked the
master bedroom door.
