I, however, found it amusing. I coldly retorted, “Are you sure it’s just because of her?”
“Daniel, even without Ashley, someone else would have interfered in our relationship. While Ashley certainly fanned the flames of our fractured relationship, she was just the catalyst.”
“The main reason we ended up like this is because you didn’t trust me enough.”
From the day Ashley approached Daniel with malicious intent, I had subtly warned him many times.
After I found clues that Ashley was faking her illness, I even brought him evidence, earnestly pleading with him.
But Daniel didn’t believe me. Instead, he thought I was just jealous and deliberately slandering Ashley, calling me petty and nitpicky.
Later, simply because Ashley said she wanted to be a mother, he disregarded my feelings and insisted on giving her a child.
He even neglected me when I was hemorrhaging, busy having a child with Ashley.
He knew how much I longed for our child to come into this world.
Ever since I was diagnosed as pregnant, I had bought a pile of baby items and meticulously decorated the nursery.
Yet, he personally destroyed the things I cared about, indirectly causing the death of the child I had so desperately anticipated.
Our relationship slowly deteriorated because of his repeated favoritism towards Ashley.
Ashley’s acting was always transparent. If he had shown even the slightest suspicion towards her, her lies would have crumbled instantly.
Yet, Ashley fooled him for so many years, and he only learned the truth today.
My retort intensified Daniel’s guilt. He said hoarsely, “I’m sorry, Chloe, I truly know I was wrong.”
“I shouldn’t have trusted Ashley so easily. I’ve already been punished. Please forgive me and give me another chance?”
“You like children. We can have many more…”
My patience with Daniel completely ran out. I enunciated each word, “That’s enough, Daniel. You’ve already lost your chance.”
“From the day you let Ashley cause the death of our child, we were over.”
Saying that, I didn’t want to deal with Daniel anymore and moved to close the door.
Just then, Daniel keenly noticed the sandalwood bracelet on my wrist. Though he was usually afraid of pain, he boldly reached out and blocked the door.
“Wait, don’t close it yet!”
I didn’t stop in time, and the door directly pinched Daniel’s fingers, turning them bruised and making him cry out in pain.
While I was stunned, Daniel squeezed into the room.
He grabbed my hand, pointed at the bracelet on my wrist, and said joyfully, “Chloe, I knew it! Even if you married Julian and had a child, you still had feelings for me!”
“You still care about me, otherwise, why would you still be wearing our token of love?”
But he was mistaken. I had long thrown away our original token of love.
This one was a new one Julian insisted on getting for me after he got jealous and dragged me to a temple.
The one on my wrist now was *my and Julian’s* token of love.
Before I could speak, Daniel began pulling me, talking about remarrying
“Chloe, since we can’t let go of each other, let’s stop tormenting ourselves!“\
“You can divorce Julian, and we’ll remarry! Everything Julian can give you, I can give you too.”
