Genevieve’s Point of View
Enzo cried for a while. I let him cry to his heart’s content, and when he’s had enough, we sat in a moment of silence.
“Are you okay?” I asked, breaking the silence.”
“Yeah.”
“You can stop. You don’t have to tell me everything,” I told him, but he shook his head in disagreement.”
“I have decided to tell you everything about it, and I must tell you.”
He cleared his throat, then continued his story.
“It was later found out that a Mafia member was behind the accident. It took a long time, but my father eventually hunted him down and killed him,” he said.
I tensed instantly. My biological father was also a Mafia member. Could it be the one? Could this be the reason behind the decade–long enmity between our families? No, the time frame isn’t right. I couldn’t have been a baby when Enzo’s sister was a teenager, right?
“Although my father got revenge for my sister, I couldn’t stop blaming myself. We were attacked because they knew I wasn’t strong enough to fight back. If I had listened to my dad back then and gotten actively involved in the Mafia world, they wouldn’t have come after us that day.”
There was so much pain and regret in his eyes.“]
“How old were you then?” I asked.§
“I was twenty years old.”
He was only a kid. I held his face in my hands and made him look me in the eyes.”
“It’s not your fault, Enzo. Whoever that murderer was, they must be stupid and spineless for going after kids,” I said to him.
“Spineless?”
“Yes. Why didn’t they just challenge your father directly if they thought they were strong enough to be the Mafia boss?“}
He laughed lightly. “Your logic is funny but reasonable.”
I nodded.
“Stop blaming yourself for a situation you had no control over. You were also a victim. That could have happened to you too. It’s truly sad that your sister wasn’t as lucky as you, but you should stop blaming yourself. Trust me, Renee wouldn’t want that.”
“You don’t know that,” his voice was low.
“I do. She was so happy that you took out–she’d feel bad seeing you grieving her every day.“”
He stared at me for a few seconds, then pulled me into a hug and inhaled deeply.
“Thank you, babygirl.” He kissed my forehead.
I listened to him as he told me every single thing about himself, not holding back on even the smallest or most irrelevant details. I also told him my story.
We laughed at the funny moments and cried at the sad ones.
Immediately after we were done with our stories, his phone beeped. Instead of checking it, he simply smiled at me.}
“It’s time, babygirl.“2
My brows furrowed. “Time for what?” I released an overly dramatic gasp. “Don’t tell me you want to abandon me here!“}
His shoulders moved as he laughed so hard.”
“You know I would never abandon you, even if I’m held at gunpoint.” He kissed my lips briefly. “It’s time to go to the main location of our date.”
Just then, the Ferris wheel started moving. I was scared Enzo would start screaming again, so I used my hands as a blindfold and covered his eyes.
‘Don’t look. We’ll be down soon,” I said.”
He didn’t remove my hands but wrapped his arms around my waist instead and smiled.
“Honestly, my life would be void and scary without you.“}]
I blushed at his words.!!
My jaw dropped as Enzo led me through a candlelit path, with red rose petals scattered on the ground as our red carpet. We’re still at the amusement park, but it’s a bit quiet here.
We finally stopped in front of a floral arch, surrounded by lanterns and soft classical music playing in the background.N
A little girl of about seven years old ran up to me and stretched out a bouquet of roses. I looked around and realized we had witnesses here, but they were all strangers who came to have fun in the park too.
“For you, Miss,” the little girl said.
“Thank you” I collected the flowers. She ran back to her mother after I accepted them.”
I faced Enzo. “Was she running errands for you?“%
“Yeah,” he replied.
10:09 AM
“Yeah,” he replied.
He knelt in front of me, pulled out a box from his pocket, and faced it towards me. My eyes widened at the diamond ring sparkling inside. He is going to formally propose to me? I’m not dreaming, am I?%
“Genevieve Albrecht, you’ve heard my story and you’ve seen all my flaws. But there’s something I didn’t tell you earlier.”
“What?“%
“After Renee’s death, I was consumed by guilt. I kept having nightmares and resorted to alcohol for comfort. I gave up working and started getting involved in street fights too.”
Oh no! He can’t be…”
“I got into trouble one night and was almost beaten to death, but you came along and rescued me. That was the day I sobered up. I decided to repay your kindness by putting my life together again.”
The world is such a small place.
“I kept tabs on you after that night, until your father’s death. I had always wanted to have you in my life forever, and your father’s death somehow granted me that wish.” He laughed at his silly move.”
Even I and everyone around laughed too.”
“You’ve known everything now… Would you still stay by my side and grow old with me?“>
My heart was beating fast as I stared at him. He was staring at me with so much love and hope.}
Everyone was saying, Say yes, say yes.”
I’ve never felt so loved and wanted. No one has ever loved me like him. I nodded, with tears running down my cheeks.
“Yes,” I said.”
“No!” someone suddenly screamed.”
It all happened in a flash. One moment Enzo was holding my hand, and the next moment, everyone was running around in panic, trying to find shelter.”
A man in black aimed a gun at me, but Enzo rushed in front of me. Before I could push him out of the way, the man pulled the trigger.
“Enzo!” I screarned in terror as Enzo slumped down in front of me.”
My eyes widened when I felt something burn through my chest. I looked down and saw my blood flowing. That’s when I realized the man had shot me too.”
I tried to call for help but slumped down before I could–and then… darkness.
