Chapter 3
I’d just taken off my jacket when Nathan wrapped his arms around me from behind, resting his head lazily on my shoulder.[]
“Don’t overthink it. Rebecca and I are over.“[]
1 nodded halfheartedly, having zero desire to talk.]
Nathan watched me lie down without another word and said in surprise: “You haven’t taken your vitamins yet, or used your Bio–Oil.“]
Three months pregnant meant countless supplements every day. But with surgery scheduled for tomorrow, what was the point of taking them now?]
My indifference set Nathan off. “Don’t throw a tantrum at the baby’s expense! You’re really going to any lengths to get rid of Rebecca!“]}
I didn’t react to his accusations at all–just rolled over and closed my eyes.
Nathan seemed to stare at me for a long time before finally sighing and turning off the lights.]
Hunter had left, even though this house was where he’d grown up. But after Nathan and I got married, the family gave it to us as our wedding home.
That night, Rebecca successfully claimed her old bedroom.[]
Around midnight I woke up parched and stumbled out in the dark to get water, but spotted two familiar figures in the hallway.
Rebecca’s voice was full of hurt: “You promised me I’d always be the only Castillo daughter.“]
“I never let her into your room–it’s still yours,” Hunter replied.
Rebecca’s voice turned petulant: “Then why is she pregnant?“]
Nathan was quiet for a moment, then sighed: “I slipped up that night. Forgot to put the pills in her drink.”
My nails dug deep into my palms as chills ran down my spine. No wonder it took three years of marriage for me to get pregnant–I’d been labeled barren for three whole years.
Rebecca probed carefully: “So this baby-“]
Nathan cut her off like he knew where she was going: “No. That’s my child.”
Rebecca looked annoyed but backed down when she saw the ice in his eyes.
Then Nathan said: “I bought an apartment. You’re moving there in a couple days.“]
Rebecca’s face went white as she stared at him in shock.
“It’s not her. This is my decision. She’s pregnant and
I did Jessica-”
Rebecca was stunned, seeing in Nathan’s face that something had
her upset.”
changed. Panic
set in, so she threw herself at him and kissed hin
Nathan was startled for a split second before pushing her away, but Rebecca grabbed his hand and pressed it against her chest.]
Her voice turned sultry: “It’s okay, she’s sound asleep. She won’t know.”
“You’ve been holding back this whole pregnancy. It must be torture.“]
Nathan’s eyes went hazy for a moment and Rebecca pressed her advantage–they ignited like fire meeting gasoline.
I watched it all unfold without feeling a thing. Just drained my glass of water and quietly headed back to my room.]
