Chapter 33
Alex’s hackles shot up.
Before Steven’s illness, he’d been the Alpha’s favored heir.
Now, with Steven back on his feet, Alex’s claim to the throne trembled.
Just then, a messenger burst in.
“Your Majesty! News from the southern packs the floodwaters have receded!”
Alex leaped forward, his desperation masking his scent.
“It’s all thanks to Bellona! Her divination saved countless lives. She’s a blessing to our pack!”

Bellona preened.
“Only because my Alpha inspired me. His devotion to our people moved me to use my gifts.”
Alpha Frank’s growl shook the room.
His eyes glowed with warning, but Alex barreled on.
“With Bellona at my side, l’II—”
The Alpha’s fist slammed down, shattering the stone floor.
“Fools! Read this!”
He flung a scroll at Alex, the parchment fluttering with the scent of desperation.

“Almost drowned half the pack!” the Alpha roared.
“If not for Steven and Amelia’s intervention, our southern territories would be lost!”
Alex spun on Bellona. “Explain! How could you-”
Before she could answer, Luna Saline’s furious howl filled the room.
The she–wolf’s eyes blazed with a mother’s rage as she dragged Bellona away.

“You’ve endangered our pack! You worthless mutt!”
The throne room erupted into chaos.
Wolves scurried for cover as the truth crashed down around Alex and Bellona, leaving them exposed and vulnerable. And through it all, Steven’s steady grip on my hand grounded me.
Just as the throne room seemed to settle into a shocked hush, a wave of fear – laden scents preceded the entrance of several noble she – wolves.
“Alpha Frank! Avenge us!” one howled, her voice breaking.
“The Prince Consort’s false divinations have destroyed our families!”

“My son–he’s maimed, all because of her lies!” another wailed.
The stench of their anger and betrayal filled the room.
Bellona herself cowered.
“No… I didn’t… it wasn’t me…”
she whimpered.
Alex turned to Luna Saline. “Mother, what is happening?”
Luna Saline’s eyes glowed with a mixture of anger and disappointment.
“You claimed Bellona was the Seer’s true heir, with the gift of divination. I approved this match believing she’d strengthen our pack. Instead, she’s been using false

Alex’s hands clenched into fists.
“Bellona! Explain yourself!”
Bellona remained silent, her head bowed and her body trembling
. Sensing the severity of the situation, Alpha Frank immediately summoned the Seer.
When the old wolf entered, the weight of the room’s tension seemed to physically press down on him.

The Seer dropped to his knees, his shoulders

slumped in defeat.
“I failed in raising her. Bellona… she has no divination powers. All her predictions were fabrications.”
Enraged, Alex lunged forward and grabbed Bellona by the throat.
His eyes were wild, his fangs fully extended as he snarled,
“Why? Why would you lie to me?”
It was only when the guards intervened, prying his fingers loose, that Bellona gasped for air.
“I love you, Alex!” she cried, tears streaming down her face.
