on her face. “Hurry up. Your card, please. It’s not like you’re short on cash.”

Chapter 29 Don’t Indulge Them
Mayra remembered the dossier Colten had given her. She clearly recalled. the complex web of relationships it outlined.
Ronan’s mother, Maia, had climbed her way to the top as a mistress. And, to be fair, Maia was beautiful. After pushing the first wife aside, she had managed to keep her position firmly intact.
But Maia’s family was far from impressive. She had two older sisters and a younger brother, Draven.
The family dynamic wasn’t hard to figure out.
Draven, the youngest, was a late child born to older parents, who were solely focused on marrying off their daughters for a good price and buying their son a house in Moonfell.
What they hadn’t anticipated was that Maia, the youngest daughter, would rise up and marry into wealth, lifting the entire Pan family along
with her.
The useless Draven, meanwhile, had latched onto Ronan, living off whatever crumbs the man let slip through his fingers. Even a little bit was enough to keep the Nielsen family well–fed and comfortable.
Maia’s success filled her two older sisters with envy, but the eldest daughter, Karly, had already married by then. Her husband, however, was a violent gambler who had racked up huge debts.
The dowry from her wedding had gone to Draven’s education, but it was all in vain. Despite hiring a tutor for 100 thousand dollars, Draven couldn’t even pass high school.

Miley, on the other hand, had always had high standards when it came to men. She watched as Maia married into a rich family and thought she could do the same.
Now, after over twenty years of waiting, Viviana was still single at forty- something, but thankfully, with Mayra around to bankroll their luxury lifestyle, things weren’t so bad for her.
Mayra mentally sorted through these tangled relationships, feeling a wave of frustration.
Miley noticed Mayra was silent and took it as a sign that she had the upper hand. “Mayra, what’s going on today? You’re not being very eager to pay. Don’t you want Ronan to like you anymore? I’ll tell you. Ronan listens to me.”
Mayra sneered. She must’ve been out of her mind to let people walk all over her like this.
Mayra grabbed the bag from Miley’s hands and pointed to a more elegant, classic style on the shelf behind her.
“I’ll take that one, please.”
The salesperson looked at Miley, then at Mayra.
Miley’s face changed instantly. “What are you doing, switching bags? I want this one. The other one doesn’t suit me.”
The salesperson, however, brought out the new bag, and Mayra casually slung it over her shoulder to try it on. “Yeah, this is the one.”
She took out her card and paid.
Miley’s eyes lit up–this bag was even more expensive, 70 thousand dollars.

“Fine, I’ll take this one. Actually, I could carry it too.”
She hurriedly grabbed the bag, eager to wear it.
But Mayra snatched it back. “Sorry. I bought this for myself. If you try to take it. I’ll call the cops.”
Miley’s face turned pale. It was as if she had been robbed of 70 thousand. dollars.
“Mayra, let go. This is my bag! Let it go!”
Mayra glanced at the salesperson, her tone polite. “There’s security here, right?”
The salesperson immediately called for security, who came over and restrained Miley.
Miley glared at the bag, her face twisted in anguish. “Mayra, you actually dared to steal my bag? Wait until I tell Ronan. You’ll come begging me to make it up to you. Just wait!”
Mayra slung the bag over her shoulder, flashing her a grin. “Go ahead, tell Ronan. After all, it was him who told me not to bother with you. By the way, Draven’s still in the hospital. You didn’t even know?”
Miley froze and thought, “Why is he in the hospital?”
Draven had been pampered by the family his whole life, never really hurt or sick.
Miley couldn’t take her eyes off the bag, her voice filled with regret. “I was just letting you hold it for a few days. You’ll return it to me soon enough.”
She shrugged off the security guards‘ hands with a cold snort. “Mayra, as long as you care about Ronan, you’ll always be at our mercy. Next time,

you’d better be ready with a more expensive bag, or I won’t forgive you.”
