Chapter 23
Felicia’s POV
Samuel had always been proud–so proud that he’d only ever gotten down on his knees once in his life, and that was to beg for medicine for Larissa. And now, for the second time, he was kneeling again… this time, in front of me, asking for forgiveness.
But to someone who no longer loves you? You could kneel until your knees bled, and it still wouldn’t matter. Whatever we had was long gone, buried beneath betrayal and regret.
Watching him like this–so desperate, so pathetic–I didn’t feel moved. I felt disgusted. Amused, even.

This man once swore he’d never regret his choice. And yet, not even a month after divorcing Larissa, here he was, crawling back
to me.
I curled a finger at Kevin. “Babe, head back to the room. I need a moment alone with him.”
Samuel’s eyes lit up like an eager puppy. Kevin just raised a brow, gave me a lazy smile, and strolled off without a word.
The second the door shut, I dropped the act. No more polite smiles. No more playing nice. I looked Samuel dead in the eye… and slapped him.
Hard.
I didn’t hold back. My palm cracked across his cheek with enough force to leave it swollen. But he didn’t even flinch. Didn’t get

angry. Just looked at me like he was grateful.
“If hitting me makes you feel better, then do it,” he said, voice hoarse. “Scream at me, curse me, whatever you need. I know I hurt you, Felicia. I’ll do anything if you’ll just give me another chance.”
He really thought I was softening. Poor fool. I just pulled out a handkerchief and calmly wiped my hand.
“That slap was me returning everything you gave me,” I said coldly. “Honestly, I look down on you even more now. If you’d truly cared about Larissa, if you’d stayed by her side, at least I could’ve believed you once loved her. But now? You toss her aside, claim you were tricked, and come crawling back like none of it was your fault? You’re pathetic, Samuel.”
“You want to blame her? Fine. You say she

ever stop to think that maybe you wanted to believe her? That maybe the real issue was your own weak will?”
“In both this life and the last, you weren’t in love–you were just chasing excitement. You don’t love her. You don’t love me. You’re in love with your own pride. You thought an apology would fix it all. You thought divorcing Larissa would clear your slate. But karma doesn’t work like that, Samuel. What you’ve done will come back around.”
That slap didn’t shake him. But my words- those pierced deeper than any strike.
He shook his head, pale and desperate. “No… it’s not like that. Larissa lied to me! She said she was the one at the arena, the one who fired that shot. She tricked me with

that stupid compass. If it weren’t for her, I would’ve married you! I would’ve! Please, Felicia. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you. Kevin’s not your true mate- you two never even got along as kids! Don’t throw your life away for someone you don’t love!”
He really thought that would convince me. That if I just left Kevin, he still had a shot.
I looked at him with nothing but pity.
“Who told you I don’t love Kevin?” I said softly. “I do love him, Samuel. I love him with everything I have. And I’m not leaving him. Ever. We’ve marked each other. He is my mate–my true mate.”
He looked like he’d been hit by a freight train. Like he couldn’t understand the words coming out of my mouth. “No,” he said, voice

rising, panicked. “No, you can’t love Kevin! You barely knew him in our past lives–he was a random choice this time! It hasn’t even been that long–how could you love him already?!”
“He’s going to war soon!” Samuel shouted, “He’ll leave you behind–he’ll die, just like last time! Are you really willing to live the rest of your life alone for him?!”
I looked him in the eye and said, “Why not?”
He stared at me like I’d gone mad.
“In our past life, I loved you,” I said. “And I was ready to mourn you forever. Now, I love Kevin. And if he dies protecting our pack, I’ll do the same for him. I’ll never marry again. Not because I have to–but because he’s
worth it.”
