Chapter 10
I think no one–literally no one–saw that coming.
Not the entire Moonfang Pack gathered below.
And definitely not Kevin.
I turned the whole pack upside down by choosing him, of all people–my childhood nemesis, the ever–smirking, rule–breaking Beta Kevin. Instead of the dashing, loyal Gamma Samuel everyone had pegged as my destined match. The gasps were almost theatrical.
Kevin was the first to break the stunned silence.

“Felicia,” he said slowly, like he was still trying to figure out if I’d lost my mind, “you’re not messing with me, are you? Because if I say yes and you turn around and call it a joke, I’m gonna look real stupid in front of the entire pack.”
I gave him a small smile. “I’m dead serious. You’re my mate, Kevin Menzie. Or are you planning to defy my father and reject marrying me?”
He blinked. “Hell no.”
It was the first time I’d ever seen him this flustered. Kevin, who was always lounging around like he hadn’t a care in the world, actually dropped to one knee, hands out, solemnly receiving the crown like it was sacred. I guess it was, in a way.
Then he looked up at me, his signature smirk

curling at the corners of his mouth. But his eyes… they weren’t just teasing anymore.
“No matter the reason,” he said, voice softer than I expected, “you chose me. And now that you have, Felicia, I won’t let you change your mind.”
He reached for my hand.
Samuel just had to interrupt.
“This is a mistake!” he barked, stepping forward, face pale with fury. “Felicia, you can’t play with royal tradition like this. The groom today should be me! If you’re doing this out of spite-”
I cut him off with a look.
“No, Samuel,” I said calmly. “You told me you found your fated mate. I’m just letting you

have her. Isn’t that what you wanted?”
Right on cue, Larissa dropped to her knees and knocked her forehead against the floor three times.
“Thank you, Miss Felicia!” she said, trying not to cry from joy. “Thank you for giving me and Samuel your blessing!”
Samuel just stood there, stiff, looking like he’d swallowed something sour.
It was ironic. He’d gotten exactly what he wanted. So why did he look like he’d been punched in the gut?
He scoffed coldly. “Fine. Just don’t come begging me to marry you when you regret this.”
Oh, sweet Moon Goddess. He really thought

I’d come crawling back?
My smile turned icy. “No, Samuel. You don’t come crawling back to me.”
Then I turned to Kevin and held out my hand. “Shall we, my groom? The wedding’s already waiting.”
He took it instantly. For a guy who mocked everything, there was something oddly reverent in the way he held my hand–like I was made of glass and stardust. Still had that annoying smirk, though.
“Don’t worry,” he said. “Since Felicia Howell picked me, I swear I won’t let her end up sobbing alone in her wedding chamber.”
I rolled my eyes and smacked his shoulder. “Who said anything about crying?”

That’s how it always was with Kevin. Bickering, teasing, a constant tug–of–war. But right then? It didn’t feel so bad.
Jeffrey and Delta Elbert were still clapping like they hadn’t realized the show was over. Their jaws practically unhinged when Kevin and I walked hand–in–hand back down the aisle. The entire pack just… watched us, stunned.
Even my father gave a rare, satisfied nod.
“Kevin isn’t a bad choice” he said to no one in particular. “Clever, strong, and fearless. A good match for my daughter. Today is a blessed day for the Moonfang Pack. Cut taxes by thirty percent.”
The pack roared in celebration.
I laughed as they pulled me back into the

house to prepare for the final ceremony. Queenie placed the veil over my head and handed Kevin an elegant green jade scepter -the formal tool to lift the bride’s veil.
“Your turn, Master Kevin,” she said, beaming.
Kevin just grinned and ignored the scepter altogether.
With his bare hand, he gently lifted my veil and looked straight into my eyes.
And that cocky Beta, who always seemed like nothing could faze him, looked… undone. Like his heart just thudded into a new rhythm.
I couldn’t hold his gaze for long. My cheeks heated, my ears burned. I’d never looked at Kevin this way before. Now that I had, I wasn’t sure I could stop.

I gave him a smile and murmured, “From now on, you’re my husband, Kevin. And if you dare treat me badly, I’ll divorce you without blinking.”
He grinned, wide and sure. “Not happening. You won’t get the chance.”
