Chapter 26 Another Baby
Trystan walked so quickly, and it didn’t take us long to return.
indoors. The table was already filled with an array of dishes.
Furthermore, apart from the four of us, there was now a family
of three at the table too.
It was the man, the little boy I had just met, along with at
woman, who was the man’s wife.
The man smiled as he saw me, and then he turned to his wife.
He said, “Bring Mrs. Compton the seafood soup from the kitchen. It’s good for the baby.”

I paused briefly before thanking him. “The baby’s already gone.
What’s the point in serving her the finest soup? “Peter muttered,
irritated.
Trystan glanced at me, and his gaze made me feel anxious.
Worried that he would infer something from the man’s words, I
hurriedly said to him, “You haven’t introduced me to the
gentleman.“”
I spoke gently, and I figured that I probably sounded like a qualified wife.
Trystan was slightly stunned. His gaze on me darkened for a moment before he began to introduce the man briefly.
The man was Dane Truman, the owner of the courtyard and the heir of a prominent family of doctors. He was so passionate about medicinal herbs and ingredients that he decided to
cultivate them here.
The beautiful woman with him was his wife, and the one–year- old child was his son.
After a brief exchange of greetings, I felt unsettled. I had been trying so hard to keep my pregnancy a secret from Trystan finally. What if Dane were to reveal it though unintentionally?
Chapter 26 Another Baby.
Feeling worried, I couldn’t help but glance at Lanny, hoping he
would think of a way to help me.
At this moment, Aleah Buck, Dane’s wife, returned with the
freshly made soup and smiled at me, “Give it a go, Mrs. Compton.
I loved this when I was pregnant with Andy. It may taste a bit
funny, but it’s also good for you, as Dane has added some
nourishing herbs into it. How many weeks has it been?”
Andy Truman was the boy. Hearing her words, I was panicking
and sweaty at once. I looked at her and smiled, “The baby was
six weeks old, but Trystan and I weren’t ready, so I aborted the
baby.”
Aleah was dumbfounded and looked at me, looking rather
doubtful. “You don’t look like…
“What she has is just some symptoms of false pregnancy, Mrs.
Truman. They will go away after a few days. I can’t help but
admire you and Mr. Truman, though. You’re both so
experienced in traditional medicine that you could tell just by
observation.” Lanny, who was sipping some tea, finally said.
Dane squinted and then smiled after a while, saying nothing
more. Aleah, on the other hand, was still skeptical that it was a
false pregnancy. She smiled and chatted with me for a while
longer.
Chapter 26 Another Baby
Finally, the meal was over. Dane whispered something into
Aleah’s ear, and then Aleah glanced at me in a daze before
nodding and heading out.
Then Dane turned to Trystan. “Since you’ve come all the way
here, I’ve prepared some herbs for Mrs. Compton. Take them
back and make sure she recuperates well. If so, having another
baby won’t be difficult.”
Trystan nodded and looked at me emotionlessly. For a time, I
couldn’t tell what he was thinking.
Somehow, I felt as though he had specifically brought me over to have Dane take a look at me. As for his purpose, I truly had no idea.
Feeling perplexed, I remained silent the whole time until we left.
It was already evening by the time we got into the car. Peter couldn’t stand the sight of me, and he found me an eyesore, so he urged Trystan to send me home.
I didn’t argue with Peter. Knowing they probably still had other matters to take care of, I got down and said I would take a cab myself. They could do whatever they wanted.
Trystan didn’t say much. He merely told me to be careful before leaving with the other two.
Chapter 26 Another Baby
I was preoccupied, and I couldn’t sleep at all. I wanted to ask
Lanny, yet I couldn’t, as he was with Trystan. With nowhere
else in mind, I headed to Timeless Bar.
The sky had gotten dark, and the bar was fairly packed.
Lexie was utterly shocked to see me. “What are you doing here.
instead of resting at home?” she screamed while baring her
teeth, looking like she wanted to beat me up.
“I was bored,” I said before finding myself a seat.
Macy clutched her forehead, seemingly about to flare up.
“You’ve just had an abortion a few days ago, Ms. Carson. Can’t
you be good to yourself and stay home?”
Knowing she was worried about me, I looked at her. “Give me a
glass of orange juice, and let’s chat.””
“I’m not a tool for you to relieve your boredom,” she replied
before heading to the counter.
I supported my chin with my hands and looked at the people
coming and going at the bar. Meanwhile, I couldn’t help but
wonder why Trystan had brought me to Herbal Garden today.
Did he already suspect that I had kept the baby?
Chapter 26 Another Baby
“Why are you in a daze? Didn’t you say you were bored? Let’s
- go. I’ll take you somewhere nice.” Lexie patted me on the
shoulder out of the blue and began to drag me outside.
I followed her out of the bar in confusion. “Where are we
going?”
“You’ll know when we get there.”
The entire street was filled with bars. I thought she was just
taking me out for a stroll, and I was speechless for a second.
“Come on. Instead of watching your bar, you take me out for a
walk? What are you thinking?”
“What are you talking about?” She pointed at a glamorous-
looking nightclub ahead. “I’ve got someone looking after my bar.
Didn’t you say you were bored? Well, I’m about to show you a
whole new world!”
I hardly went anywhere else apart from Lexie’s bar. Being dragged by her into the glamorous nightclub, I felt that my ears.
were about to burst from the blaring music playing in the
nightclub.
Lexie seemed to know this place like the back of her hand. She
found a nice, eye–catching spot on the second floor and called
the manager over. She said, “Get us two of your boys!””
Chapter 25 Another Baby
The manager immediately nodded upon seeing the look on
Lexie’s face. “Sure. I’ll bring them here for you to take your pick.”
I looked at her, feeling that the corners of my eyes were
twitching. “What are you getting male hosts for?”
“To keep us company, of course!” she answered righteously
before placing a glass of juice in front of me. “I want you to take
a look at them and pick anyone you like. Any of them is much
more skillful and gentle than Trystan. Don’t waste your time
thinking about him all day. You should put on an attitude!”
Before I could say anything, the manager from earlier returned
with over a dozen male models, stunning me into silence. “Pick anyone you like. They have every kind of guy here. Don’t you like those who are domineering? See that man in the suit over there? He looks just as good and overbearing as Trystan,
doesn’t he?” Lexie said while choosing a youthful, puppy–like
male model.
The male model seemed awfully experienced. He walked over to her and carefully poured her a glass of wine before placing her hand in his. She showed no signs of refuting at all. Instead,
she merely leaned into his arms.
I was slack–jawed and thought, “Does she come here often?
“No wonder she stays single forever”
Chapter 26 Another Haby
“Why are you looking at us? Hurry up and choose your guy!”
Lexie urged.
Not knowing what to do at all, I smiled, “I … am good.”
Rolling her eyes at me, Lexie pointed to the man in the suit.
“You, stay here and keep her company.”
After we picked, the other male models left, and the man in the
suit sat down next to me. I felt particularly uncomfortable.
Meanwhile, Lexie and her guy were about to leave and have
some fun privately.
With just me and the man in the suit in the room, I turned to him and said awkwardly, “Well, I’m not…”
“You don’t have to explain, Ma’am. I understand,” the man responded with a smile. “Everyone’s like this the first time. You’ll get used to it.”
I said nothing.
I actually had no idea what to say.
