Chapter 6 Janet Is Pregnant
“Ms. Reese, I’m surprised at how fast your face changed.” Casting Janet a calm glance, I picked up my bag and prepared to go to the Compton’s home.
Trystan would not go, but I had to go.
The moment I reached the door, Janet blocked my way. Seeing that Trystan was not around, she could finally stop pretending to be a harmless bunny. She asked me sharply, “When are you going to sign the divorce agreement?”
I was stunned for a second and then chuckled as I looked at her. “Are you forcing me to divorce him as the other woman?”
“You’re the other woman!” I seemed to have hit a nerve by calling her that because her face darkened as she said, “Evie, if not for you, the hostess of this house would be me now. Since Arnold has died, no one will protect you or keep you here. If I were you, I’d sign the divorce agreement, take the money from Trystan, and go as far away as possible.”
“Well, it’s a shame that you’re not me, Ms. Reese!” I retorted coldly as I ignored her vicious look and walked around her to go downstairs. Except for Trystan, no one could say anything to hurt me.
As someone who had always been in the limelight, Janet was dissatisfied that I ignored her. She suddenly gripped my arm. “You’re so shameless, Evie! Trystan doesn’t even like you, so what’s the point of you clinging onto him?”
Glancing back at her, I wanted to laugh, but I said calmly, “Since you know this, what’s there to be nervous about?”
“You…” She flushed, unable to respond.
I got closer to her with a faint sneer on my face and whispered, “As for why I’m clinging onto him…” I paused and said slowly, “He’s so good in bed. So tell me. What’s the use of it?”
“Evie, you bitch!” Janet’s eyes turned red with anger. Without a second thought, she raised her hands and tried to push me. The stairs were behind me, so instinctively, I dodged sideways to avoid her hands.
However, I never expected Janet to lose her balance and fall down the stairs.
Her loud scream sounded throughout the living room. I stood still for a while, unable to react.
Suddenly, I was shoved aside. Then, Trystan rushed down the stairs to check on Janet, who was lying at the bottom of the stairs.
Janet was curled up on the floor, covering her belly with a distorted ashen face. She said in a weak voice, “My child. My child.”
There was blood under her body, staining the carpet red. I froze. Was she pregnant?
Was that Trystan’s child?
Janet tugged at Trystan’s sleeve as she repeated, “Trystan, the child. The child…”
Sweat covered Trystan’s forehead, his icy face tense.
“Don’t be afraid. The child will be alright.” He comforted Janet and carried her in his arms while striding toward the door.
After taking a few steps forward, Trystan suddenly stopped. His eyes were blazing, and the anger in his voice was obvious. “Fine, Evie.”
His calm words were full of indifference, hatred, and rage.
I stood there, not knowing what to do.
“Are you not going to follow them and explain it?” A deep voice came from behind. I was stunned, turning to see Lanny there. I didn’t know when he had come.
Suppressing my panic, I asked, “Explain what?”
He raised his eyebrows. “Aren’t you afraid that he will think that you pushed Janet?”
I dropped my eyes with a hint of bitterness in them. “It doesn’t matter whether I pushed her or not. The key is that Janet is injured, and someone has to take the blame for it.”
“You’re quite smart.” Lanny went down the stairs and left the villa with his medical kit.
I guessed he would go to the hospital to see Janet.
