Chapter 4 Snatching
The corridor wasn’t wide, so we ran into each other face to face. Stunned for a while, Lanny straightened his clothes and said, “Ms. Carson, I’m here to treat Janet.”
Lanny was Trystan’s best friend. It was said that a woman could see whether a man loved her from his closest friends’ attitude toward her.
Just what he called me said it all. They would only call me Ms. Carson.
What a polite and cold form of address it was!
I knew I should not dwell too much on the details as they would only make me sad. Forcing a smile, I gave way to him and replied, “I see. Go ahead!”
Sometimes I truly envied Janet. She only needed to sob to get the affection I couldn’t have no matter how much effort I made.
I went back to the bedroom, found a suit that Trystan had never worn before, took them out of the bedroom, and walked downstairs to the living room.
Lanny quickly treated Janet. After measuring her temperature and prescribing her fever medicine, he was ready to leave.
When he went downstairs and saw me standing in the living room, he gave me a distant smile. “It’s getting late now. Are you not going to sleep, Ms. Carson?”
“I’ll sleep soon.” I handed him the clothes as I said, “Your clothes are wet, and it’s still raining outside. Change into them before leaving, or you’ll catch a cold.”
He was probably surprised by my actions. He managed a smile. “No need. I’m very strong, so it’s okay.”
I stuffed the clothes into his hands and insisted, “Trystan has never worn them before. Even the tags are still on them. You two are about the same size. Just put them on.”
After saying that, I went upstairs and returned to the bedroom.
I was not that kind. When my grandmother was hospitalized, Lanny was her attending doctor. He was an internationally renowned expert. If not for the Compton family, he would never have agreed to perform surgery on my grandmother. I gave him the clothes just to return his favor.
The next day.
After a whole night of heavy rain, the morning air was filled with a fresh scent of soil. I was used to getting up early. After washing up, I went downstairs and saw Trystan and Janet in the kitchen.
Trystan had a black apron around his waist as he was cooking. His harsh and cold vibe disappeared. He looked more like an ordinary person at the moment.
Janet’s bright eyes were fixed on him. Her delicate face was slightly red, probably because her fever was just gone. She appeared both lovely and charming.
“Trystan, I want my fried eggs to be slightly burnt.” As Janet spoke, she fed Trystan a strawberry. “But not too burnt, or it’ll taste bitter.”
Trystan chewed on the strawberry as he glanced at Janet. Although he kept silent, his eyes were very tender.
They were a perfect match, both having good looks.
It was a warm, romantic, and sweet scene.
“They look good together. Don’t you think so?” A voice from behind startled me. I looked back and found Lanny standing there. I forgot that it had rained heavily last night. Besides, Janet had a high fever at that time, so Trystan naturally did not let Lanny leave.
“Good morning,” I smiled, looked down, and realized that he was wearing the clothes I had given him last night.
Sensing my gaze, Lanny raised his eyebrows with a smile. “The clothes fit me quite well. Thank you.”
I shook my head. “You’re welcome.” I had bought them for Trystan, but he never once wore them.
Hearing our voices, Janet called out, “Evie, Lanny. You’re both awake. Trystan fried some eggs for breakfast. Come here and have some!”
She spoke as if she were the hostess.
I said with a slight smile, “No, thanks. I bought some bread and milk yesterday. The milk is still in the fridge. You’ve just recovered, so drink more milk.” After all, I lived here for two years, and this house was owned by me and Trystan.
Although I was weak, I could not bear to see someone else snatch my home.
