Chapter 3 I Agree To Divorce You
I knew that it was impossible to get him to stay, but I still wanted to try it. Looking into his eyes, I announced, “I agree to divorce you, but I have conditions. If you stay here tonight and accompany me to Grandpa’s funeral, I’ll sign the divorce papers as soon as it ends.”
His eyes narrowed with ridicule, and his mouth twitched slightly. “Please me.” He let go of my chin and bent forward to whisper in my ear, “You can only get what you want by action rather than talking, Evie.”
His voice was cool, deep, and sexy. I knew what he meant, so I hooked my arms around his waist as I pushed my face closer to his. I probably looked funny due to the height difference between us.
I couldn’t describe my feelings. I had to use such a despicable way to force my beloved person to stay. How pathetic I was!
Following my instincts, I wanted to move my hand downward when I was abruptly grabbed by him. I looked up and met his unreadable eyes. “That’s enough.”
His indifferent voice stunned me for a moment. I could not comprehend his words. He then took his grey pajamas from the bed and put them on elegantly.
I was dumbfounded for a while before realizing what was going on. He would stay.
Before I could even feel happy about it, a woman’s voice sounded outside the window in the rain. “Trystan…”
While I was still in shock, Trystan reacted quickly. He strode onto the balcony. Then, with a gloomy face, he picked up his coat and left the bedroom.
Janet was standing in the rain under the balcony. The cold rain had already drenched her thin dress. The fragile, beautiful woman looked increasingly pitiful in the rain.
Draping his coat over her shoulders, Trystan was about to scold Janet. Suddenly, she hugged him tightly and sobbed in his arms.
Seeing this, I finally understood why my two-year marriage with Trystan couldn’t compare with a phone call from Janet.
Trystan took Janet into the villa with his arm around her. I stood at the top of the stairs when he brought her upstairs, blocking their way as I looked at their wet clothes.
“Get out of the way!” Trystan snapped with a disgusted face.
Did I feel sad?
I didn’t know, but my eyes suffered more than my heart did. They witnessed the person they loved cherishing another woman and trampling all over me.
“Trystan, when we got married, you promised Grandpa that you would never let her into this house as long as I was here.” This was the home of Trystan and me. I had let Janet have him for countless nights. As if that was not enough, he was letting her defile the only place belonging to me.
Trystan sneered. Pushing me aside, he retorted coldly, “Don’t flatter yourself, Evie.”
How mocking his words were! In the end, I could only watch like a bystander as he brought Janet into the guest room.
Tonight, I was destined to be sleepless.
Janet was exposed to the heavy rain outside. She was weak, so she got a high fever from standing in the rain. Trystan cared very much about her, helping her change into clean clothes while using a towel to cool her down.
Perhaps I, who was standing on the side, was an eyesore to him, so he coldly glanced at me and ordered, “Go back to the Compton’s home now! Janet is sick. She won’t be able to go anywhere tonight.”
He wanted me to go to the Compton’s home at this hour. I sneered inwardly.
I guessed I was really an eyesore to him.
After gazing at Trystan for a long time, I didn’t know how to remind him that the Compton’s home was very far away from here. It would be dangerous for a woman to go out alone late at night.
However, he didn’t care about all this. He only cared about Janet and didn’t want me to disturb her rest.
I endured the bitter pain in my chest before saying calmly, “I’ll go back to the bedroom. It’s not … proper to go there now.”
I would not mistreat myself even though he didn’t cherish me at all.
I turned to leave the guest room and met Lanny Dennis in the corridor as he hurried over. Seeing that he was still in his black pajamas, I guessed that he must have rushed over. He hadn’t even changed his shoes, and his pajamas were almost soaked through.
