Chapter 2 Can You Stay Tonight?
The bedroom door was suddenly pushed open before I could think any further. Slightly drenched, Trystan went straight into the bathroom without sparing me a second glance. Then there was the sound of running water.
His return made me unable to continue sleeping, so I got up and put on my clothes. I took out his pajamas from the wardrobe and placed them by the bathroom door before going to the balcony.
Since it was the monsoon season, it was drizzling outside. The sky was dark, and the sound of the rain hitting the bricks could be heard faintly.
Hearing the noise behind me, I turned and saw that Trystan had come out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist. His hair was damp, droplets of water dripping down his strong body. He looked so sexy.
He might have noticed my gaze, so he looked at me with a slight frown. “Come here,” he commanded emotionlessly.
I obediently stepped over and caught the towel that he had thrown at me. He then said in a deep voice, “Dry my hair.”
I had long gotten accustomed to his overbearing ways. When he sat on the edge of the bed, I climbed onto it and half knelt to wipe his hair.
“Tomorrow is Grandpa’s funeral. We should go back earlier,” I reminded him. I wasn’t making conversation with him. I was just worried that he would forget about it because his mind was full of Janet.
He grunted out a response and said nothing else.
Knowing that he didn’t want to talk to me, I fell silent and focused on drying his hair. After that, I lay down on the bed again, ready to sleep.
I had been sleepy lately, which might be due to my pregnancy. Trystan would usually go to his study after taking a shower and would stay there until midnight. So I was bewildered when he lay down after putting on his pajamas.
Even so, I didn’t ask any questions. However, he suddenly wrapped his arms around my waist, pulled me into his arms, and kissed me gently.
I raised my eyes to him in confusion. “Trystan, I…”
“Unwilling?” he asked. His eyes flashed with wild desire.
I lowered my eyes. Indeed, I was unwilling, but it wasn’t up to me to decide.
I asked, “Can you be gentler?” The baby was only six weeks old, so there was the risk of a miscarriage.
He frowned in silence.
The rain turned heavy. Thunder flashed across the sky. The light beamed into the room. After a long while, he got out of bed and went into the bathroom.
I broke out in a cold sweat from the pain. I wanted to get up to take some painkillers, but I gave up as soon as I thought of the child.
All of a sudden, the phone on the bedside table rang. It was Trystan’s phone. I glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already eleven o’clock.
Janet was the only one who would call Trystan at this hour.
The sound of running water in the bathroom disappeared. Trystan stepped out in his towel. After drying his hands, he hurriedly answered the call.
I could only see Trystan frown slightly as he said, “Janet, don’t mess around.”
With that, he hung up, got changed, and prepared to leave. In the past, I would have pretended not to see it, but this time I suddenly grabbed Trystan’s arm and pleaded softly, “Can you stay tonight?”
Trystan frowned with displeasure on his handsome face. “Don’t push your luck.”
His words were filled with coldness and sarcasm.
I was stunned for a moment and then amused. Looking up at him, I explained, “It’s Grandpa’s funeral tomorrow. No matter how much you care about her, you should know what to do, right?”
“You are threatening me?” He narrowed his eyes at me. He gripped my chin and said in a low and dangerous tone, “You’ve got bold, Evie.”
