Chapter 14 Chase Me
Mayra knew he was talking about Ronan.
Everyone in Moonfell said everything she did now was for Ronan.
She couldn’t argue against it.
“Mr. Colten, I’m in dire need of money right now. I just want a job, and the Morton Group pays well. I’m capable of handling hard work.”
If one could handle hard work, they would never run out of it.
Mayra understood this, but she still wanted to join the Morton Group. She wanted to know what was really going on with Colten’s leg and what their past was.
Colten, sitting in the car, suddenly let out a snort.
Mayra felt that chill again, feeling that her words had angered him somehow.
He closed his eyes, his face cold. “Since this is your wish, you’re recruited.”
Mayra’s eyes lit up, and she quickly bowed. “Thank you. I’ll come in tomorrow to complete the onboarding process.”
Colten didn’t respond. The car window slowly rolled up.
After the car drove through the large iron gates, he finally spoke to Jared in the front seat. “Don’t do this again.”
“Boss, I just thought she came with ulterior motives. She’ll end up

causing trouble with Ronan, and you’ll have to clean up the mess.”
Colten looked out the window silently, his hand lightly resting on the file.
beside him.
Jared didn’t say more. He truly despised Mayra, to the point where he wished she would just disappear.
Meanwhile, Ronan had just finished a date with Viviana and bought her several designer bags.
Whenever he used to go out with Viviana, Mayra would always cause. them trouble.
This constant interference made him increasingly annoyed with Mayra, but tonight had gone surprisingly smoothly.
He had prepared how to insult her if she showed up, but now it seemed he didn’t need to.
“Ronan, what’s on your mind?”
Ronan lifted her chin, looking at the slap mark on her face, anger rising. “Why hasn’t it faded yet?”
Viviana lowered her eyes, looking pitiful. “Maybe it’ll be gone by tomorrow. My sister’s been in a bad mood lately. She even slapped Shaun.
He’s still mad.”
“She’s really out of control! Don’t your parents say anything?”
“If they do, she threatens to run away from home. She’s been gone for two days now. My mom’s already sick with worry.”
Ronan’s face was full of disdain. He felt sorry for any family that had a daughter like Mayra.

“Vivi, your family is lucky to have you. I heard you earned a few million dollars from the project you invested in. You’re so amazing.”
Viviana smiled, saying, “I do own ten percent of the company’s shares. I spend a lot of money at home, so I guess I need to work harder.”
“Oh, she’s been living off your family for years without doing anything to help. But you’ve been back for just five years and managed projects so well. How can you two be so different?”

The next morning, Mayra dressed casually and headed to the Morton Group with her documents.
While handling paperwork in the HR Department, she ran into Ronan, who had just stepped out of the elevator.
Ronan’s expression changed instantly. No wonder she hadn’t caused trouble last night. She had come to the company instead.
He grabbed her wrist, his tone agitated. “Mayra, I don’t care what you do outside, but I’ve told you many times the Morton Group is not a place for you to mess around!”
Mayra glanced at his furious face and felt a pang of irritation. She shook off his hand.
Ronan’s eyes darkened. “You’re just making me hate you even more with all this. You even slapped Vivi yesterday. You’re lucky I don’t hit
women.”
The HR Department handed her the finished work badge. Mayra put it around her neck and looked up at him.
“From today on, I’m working for the Morton Group. Ronan, I’m not here for you. You’re not that special.”

Ronan felt like he had been slapped in the face, but he quickly composed
himself.
“If it weren’t for me, why would someone as lazy as you even want a job?“
